when are they going to get this classic on here
Use the Wishlist, Luke...
Well, for a start, they haven't (as far as I know) got the rights to distribute the game.
That would require talking with Games Workshop, and apparently EA (who own Mindscape, the developer of WH:SOTHR).
After that, they would need to do some significant work to get it running on Vista, as the last time I played it (reviewed for Abandonia), it required a couple of workarounds just to get it installed (it's a win95 game, and that's the root of the issue).
I'd love to see SotHR on GOG. Dark Omen was a blast, although a checkpoint system wouldn't've hurt.
Although isn't Shadow of the Horned Rat like three times as difficult?

SOTHR is horrendously difficult, especially for a beginner. Using infantry, cavalry and archers is okay, but artillery, magic and flying units are exceedingly tricky (but very necessary).
Couple that with resource management (knowing which missions are worth your time, otherwise you won't be able to afford your mercenary upkeep).
I did have a good time reviewing it though, but it hasn't aged well. the 3D terrain is fine, but the 2D sprite units are blurry and the GUI is cumbersome and fills a large amount of screen space.
You could always check out my review on Abandonia, I won't link there... but it is featured on MobyGames here.

I never got around to finishing this when it was new. Good game, though. Yes, the sprites were crappy, but they didn't really detract from the game. I'd probably get around to buying it soon after release on gog, if it ever showed up.

Not so much 3 times as difficult but 3 times as clunky and unintuitive. Then again after playing the Total War games, every formation based RTS game feels clunky and unintuitive

First: It is generally polite to type things out. I realize that, when texting on a phone, having a fast-paced conversation with friends, or chatting mid-deathmatch, it is acceptable to shorten words and throw grammar out the window. This is a message board. If you don't have time to sit down and write something, come back later :p
Second: What you are asking for is piracy. Our official stance on that is "we frown upon it", so don't be a pirate (unless you are of the "butt" variety, or have an eyepatch. Those two flavors are okay).
