I'm looking for an old dos/win95 game that I once played as shareware but I can't for the life of me remember much about it. I think it was from the same sort of time as terminal velocity (I think they were both on a shareware disk or possibly just with different issues of the magazine). I do remember really enjoying it at the time and being a bit disapointed that it wasn't sold locally.

I can't really remember the gameplay but I'm pretty sure you played some sort of pilot (I'm not sure though). It had a story that involved some sort of conspiracy and I think the shareware version ended with your character laying on their bunk (possibly drugged) with the bad guys coming for them (but I maybe mixing this up with something else). The image I remember is of someone lying on a bed with the door to the room open and I think someone's shadow. I think it was set in the future on some alien planet or maybe mars, I can't quite recall.

If anyone can get what game this is I'd be really astonished, amazed and very thankful!

Bump. Hope other people could help you. I wasn't really into PC gaming around that time.. so don't know about the game you described.

Was it pre-rendered 3D or real-time generated?
I think the story bits used mostly still 2D pictures (perhaps with some bits animated) with text or voice over them (I can't remember which but I'd guess text). I'm pretty sure it was mostly narrated from your characters perspective but I'm not certain.

I know this is not a lot to go on, which is probably why I've never been able to find it before. I'm tying to remember something about the game play but whenever I think I've remembered something I then have a strong suspicion I'm mixing up with other games I played at that time.

The one I'm thinking of at the moment is where you flew over (or perhaps were in a ground vehicle) a city. You view the action from a top down perspective (bird's eye view basically). But like I said, I'm not sure if I've gotten confused with something else.
Since it was on a shareware disc with Terminal Velocity... Maybe it's made by the same company that made TV ?

Traffic Department 2192?

My best guess is Albion. There are things that don't quite fit with what you describe, but its still fairly close to the first part of the game.

Wow, that looks like it! And it's freeware: http://www.classicdosgames.com/game/Traffic_Department_2192.html

It's supported by dos box so it shouldn't be a problem getting it to run. Thanks very much! You're amazing! It'll be interesting to see if my older self will enjoy it as much as my younger self did.

Yay go me - it was relatively fresh in my mind from a 'Crap Shoot' article I read not so long ago:

Glad I could help
I'm glad you found the game you were looking for!
Thanks again Fever_Discordia. I must have been somewhere around 10 to 13 years old when I first played it so it does bring back memories. :D

Sorry for bumping that 2 weeks old thread, I just stumbled upon it because of your other forgotten games thread.
Traffic Department 2192 seems to run better on older versions of DOSBox. Ancient DOS Games had an episode about it, he always has tips how to run the featured game in DOSBox. Take a look at it here: http://www.pixelships.com/adg/ep0058.html
It's a good show all around IMHO, so you should watch some other episodes about games that sound interesting to you. Or obscure stuff like Amulets & Armor (that recently got revived as a freeware game)

No worries about bumping it, that's a great find! Thanks! I'm always interested in the more obscure stuff because for the longest time I was so boringly mainstream and now I'm realising what I've missed.
