Fuzzyfireball: Those are the Steam version, they altered and modified a number of things.

keeveek: You mean patched? :D

look at the price of HL complete on impulse. I snapped :D
If you wanna call taking some things out patched?

I know they'll never come to GOG and that's fine, I still have my discs :D

Sinizine: Didn't Direct2Drive sell Valve games for a long time?

I really don't understand any joy in giving money to Gamestop over Valve.
Not that I know of. D2D, GS, and GG have been selling Steamworks games for a while but not those that were made by Valve.

... buh. What. Are you talking about.

OmegaX: It won't require Impulse because you are just buying a key to activate on Steam from GameSpot. Origin is the same except that many games don't even require the client to run and redeeming your keys on Origin is optional.
Ah. I saw "Impulse must be installed in order to download software" in the description, and therefore assumed that Impulse must be installed in order to download software.

What did they remove?

By the way: If you have a boxed copy of Half-life or Gunman Chronicles you can register it on steam, and by doing so you will get Half-Life, Opposing Forces, Blue Shift, Counter strike, Day of defeat, Team Fortress Classic, Deathmatch classic and Ricochet added to your steam account (but not Gunman Chronicles...)

Plus one. Ive finished HL on steam several times and never noticed any differenced from old release.

Can you elaborate? First I heard of anything like this.

That's just copypasta from all the other games. This is what counts: "IMPORTANT: This game requires the Steam Client to install & play." You should only need Impulse to view your CD keys before activating them on Steam.

Unless he meant HL Source, which -does- have a few differences, mostly in the physics and the graphics.
Since the games still require Steam to run, I'm not particularly happy that another shop has started selling products that I'm not interested in.
I don't really see what the big deal is... so you can buy Steam keys for Valve games elsewhere. Why is this better than buying them directly from Steam?

Because they want to give Valve less money.

Though given Impulse generally has terrible sales, buying them from Impulse will likely end up giving Valve more money.
Pigs fly, indeed. Out of nowhere. Obviously steam is still required.

What's next? Half-Life 3 surprise release on d2d, err gamefly.com?
I can't remember everything they changed, and there was a thread on Steam about this ages ago, but from what I remember.

The main menu's have all be downgraded from their original "cooler" versions.
Blue Shift's hud is yellow instead of blue.
They all have music bugs, and OpFor uses HL's music instead of its own.
The HD pack can break mods on Steam release.
Sounds are missing, including HECU marine phrases.

Among other things. I wish I could find the thread, it listed them all out and it was pretty interesting. Not saying the Steam one is bad but I prefer the "WON" version.

Damn, now I can't say that Valve won't sell their games digitally anywhere but Steam.
On the upside, now I don't have to give money to Valve ever again.
What's your problem with Valve/Steam? Seriously, in what way is Gamestop/Impulse better?
