Ah yes, Feb. 14. That day when i get a ton of chocolate. That's not so bad.
It's Mar. 14, the day I lose a ton of money, that I hate =/.
The majority of people are superficial idiots, thats why I have a grand total of 6 friends and another 6-7 people that I feel slightly more than neutral about

Prator: Happy Singles Awareness Day!

Abuse, not awareness.
I have to fall in with the "Fuck valentines day" crowd. When you're single its nothing but the whole world pointing and laughing at you and I'll bet good money that the effects of this manufactured greeting card holiday has been the catalyst for the death of a notable number of people.
If you're in love with someone and need a pre-set day to make into a big occasion, then you've got serious problems

Fixed, the same happens with a lot of other holidays (ie. spend-all-your-money-on-gifts-days).

True but there's at least some validity to birthdays. Sure christmas is as much a crock of shit as valentines day, mothers/fathers day or 'person with brown hair who owns a dog that sort of looks like him/her if you use your imagination' day but birthdays do actually mean something
I think I heard somewhere the aboriginies of Australia don't selebrate birthdays because there is no merit in being born. You were just born and that's it, it's not like you did something worth celebrating.
Celebrations are cool. They give you a chance to do something out of the ordinary along with a whole bunch of people who are also doing it just like you. Take these next three days for example. It's carnival time for us latin folk. Ask any brazillian on the forum what that entails. Combine that with Valentine's and you're going to get a lot of birthdays in nine months. :)

El_Caz: You were just born and that's it, it's not like you did something worth celebrating.

My idea exactly.
The difference with Valentines day and many other days, is that there's a big part of the population that can't "celebrate" it since they're single while most other special days can be celebrated by everyone. On top of that, it causes grief, depression, etc. Heck, even within relationships, it's the ideal day for the husband to get a kick in the nuts for not getting his gf or wife a nice present. Seems to me it's only for women with a boyfriend or husband so screw Valentines Day :p.
Also, that day is cursed I tell you! Every time I've had a gf, we either broke up shortly before VD, or we'd have a huge fight right before it, meaning I'd be alone on that day regardless. Plus, even when I was still a kid, it was a crap day. So, no thanks. VD leaves a bitter trail of misery in my mind. Love is something you celebrate all year round, not on some stupid commercialised day where stores are rubbing their greedy little paws over all the expensive crap husbands buy to try and appease their wives who expect the most thoughtful gift ever. *rant over :P*

Valentines day? Bah!
If I'm at a shop and I'm not buying a card/choco/roses every isle I walk down, people will tsk-tsk disapprovingly at me. I'm also single and not dating, so therefore there must be something wrong with me, at least until the 15th.

Yes, bless social stigma. It's an evil day I tell you - I bet if you were to count all the people who want VD to just disappear, you'd get a big majority.

Maybe we're all looking at this the wrong way, perhaps its a stealthy way to engender empathy for the more traditionally abused groups

Maybe you guys just don't get it. Single or not - celebrating or not - You got a Valentine from me. I would venture that more kids (pre K to 3rd grade) celebrate with no gender pre-condition imposed upon this day than adults. Your points while true and specific to your circumstance do not invalidate my wish to give each of you a virtual Valentine's Day Card.
Well I suppose your enjoyment of the holiday is based on what you put into it, or maybe it's just because I'm young, naive, and a seriously lucky son of a bitch, because I had a good Valentine's Day.
I went to the Snow Ball at school and rocked the fuck out! I was also not even close to being the only single person there, so we had fun. Heck, we had fun with the people that are in a relationship, too!
And now, I'm not sure how exactly, but I think that, as of about an hour ago, I have a girlfriend.

If you really love someone, every day should be a celebration. Fuck the status quo on needing a "day" to celebrate.

Every day EXCEPT valentines day, just to give it the finger
