AnonAnom: I agree. It's a step in the right direction. But they still need to get rid of the activation for me.
Basically if I won't be able to dig up the game in several years' time and install and play it without needing to ever get permission, then it's too much DRM.

Cracks, it is a royal pain, I don't disagree, but you can probably crack your copy. I worry more about official archivists that cannot archive this stuff, that is a problem.
Also, source code has copyright, therefor should be held in escrow (along with build scripts and all other stuff required for building) as part of the social contract until such time as it's no longer under copyright and can be released publicly.
