But disregarding everything else, the truth is that PC gamers are the bitchiest and most self-entitled gamers out there.

Roman5: Ubisoft:

-screw over PC gamers at every turn with shitty always-online DRM, multiple product activations and poorly-done console ports
-upset when they pirate everything and you don't get money for making poor quality products
-pirates get a better deal than paying customers by a mile
-PIRATES MUST BE TO BLAME
-cut off support for PC, and on top of all this, support SOPA

Anyone remember how From Dust on Steam had another form of DRM as well? So that was DRM on top of other DRM
Yeah Exactly.

Ubisoft: Hey we heard you DON'T like DRM, so we put DRM on top of your DRM to stop pirates because everyone else who is legit is fine with DRM and won't stoop to piracy because of this DRM.

Here's his reply.

http://kotaku.com/5862513/i-am-alive-creator-insists-hes-not-opposed-to-a-pc-port-and-didnt-mean-to-piss-off-pc-gamers
and now we go into "Damage Control" mode
This is more full on back peddling he's completely changing the quote from (and i'm paraphrasing here) "We're not doing a PC port because of pirates despite all your bitching" to "What I meant to say is we're still looking at if it's worth doing a PC version despite the high piracy rate"...
I'm willing to bet it becomes an announcement of a confirmed release...

jefequeso: Well... that man is obviously a complete moron.

Actively destroying sales and alienating part of your customer base isn't exactly good business practice.
Has anyone considered he might in fact be miscommunicating. What if he just meant to admit his game, once ported to the PC platform and perverted by UBI DRM schemes, would be so crap that it wouldn't sell well ?

Seriously... Console port , Ubisoft = no buy.

PR people must not be miscommunicating. If he feels his English is not up to par, he should get a qualified translator or a PR person who actually knows what he's doing (i.e. not mispronouncing a certain sentence structure with generalization and rudeness and then citing his bad case of engrish).

:-D!

Yeah, the bitching goes a bit overboard here recently. And people feared the crowd that would come with the new releases...

I guess Ubisoft doesn't want my money. Too bad for them.

SimonG: In Ubisofts defence, they just released "Anno 2070". Which is not only a pure PC title, but also a sequel that wasn't dumbed down (quite the opposite).
becouse he is only a publisher of this title. Anno series is created by Related Designs ;-)

Why only? They provide the funding and make that game happen. (and own 30% of Related Design)

Edit: Wow, I just found out that Related Design is just around the corner from me ...

You may have been completely right. There was a new article today, apparently the guy sent out a new email to the gaming press and both apologized and clarified that he's pretty poor at English so his comments got garbled in translation.

Sure, some people will just cry out that he's only back-pedalling, but at least he felt bad enough about it to apologize. Though Ubi's not quite off the hook with the BS Ghost Recon thing.

indeed. it is like saying that EA is just a publisher of BF3. BF series is created by DICE.

For related Designs to make Anno game, the game has to be approved by heads in EA. they deliver the monies and other resources needed for the game.

Ubisoft actually does play strongly on PC market. Not only it has quite a lot of PC games but they are also quite good and also exclusive (anno now, before we got homm6)
but why oh why they have to use that drm. :(

yeah, seeing how they port their console games he's probably onto something there, save us all the hassle :)

That's a good point, and I thought I would use this opportunity to do some bitching of my own :)

Settlers 7 was a good example of a title like this, PC only, great series, but the DRM! I bought the collectors edition and couldn't play for 2 weeks because their always-on required servers were flipping out, almost everyone in Australia had this problem, seriously, not just getting booted occasionally, but the game wouldn't even launch all the way to the main menu, just the same message every time.

Thank you for existing, Ubisoft: you make me feel like a hero when I pirate the shit out of your games. Even if I don't play them....
