kalirion: I'll only have a couple hours tonight and tomorrow evening to play at this rate....
avatar
Sogi-Ya: it's only the first act, you should me able to finish it.
Well played a few hours last night, got kinda far I thought before it was 2:30am..... I hope I am able to resume my game tonight - I exited not too far from a waypoint (just started on main plot quest you get after defending the guardian.)

Overall I gotta say, I'm not terribly impressed. Fun game, sure, and the overland travel is a definite improvement, but still nothing special. So far it seems Titan Quest was a better game.

And you say that based on 4 hrs gameplay? And this is only chapter 1 in the beta... The only thing I don't like so far that the mage is overpowered...
I hoped to see more improvement on the loot system and the story.
The story might get better, but the loot system still drops a ton of stuff without anything of value or interest

Fortunately the core mechanics are great, it's fast paced and fun. They have announced a new skill tree system that isn't present currently, so it should be even more interesting to build your character.

Played 2 chars so far ... got 4 diff sets + at least 10 unique items... that is quite a lot for one chapter...

Got similar stuff like you. My gripe with it is that nothing of it was any good.
Unique items really weren't any better then regular green or blue ones, also got 2 same set items with completely different attributes, none good.

So my take is that it's to randomized, I don't get why uniques and set items have randomized attributes. I would have more sense for them to be fixed with only the values slightly randomized.

I hope they will fix it... yet is in beta state so ...they have time to balance that. One thing I've noticed too... the pet is amazingly tough :D After 3 hrs of play my pet made more dmg than me... this is ridicilous

Your pet just has physical attacks though. The mage can go all crazy with stacked aoes nd stuff.

Finally got a key for the beta and spent the entire evening playing an embermage. This will definitely be a day-one purchase for me. They've made significant improvements to the mechanics compared to the first Torchlight, and it's a lot of fun to play. In the first Torchlight each class basically just had a few active skills that were really worthwhile, and the gameplay typically involved picking one or two skills then just spamming them at everything that came your way. With Torchlight 2 there seems to be a good balance of spammable skills, fire-and-forget skills, utility skills, and passive skills, and it looks like there will be many more viable builds and gameplay will be much more dynamic (I found myself making use of about 4-6 skills simultaneously in my battles, and I'm only up to level 18). Damage-dealing skills also either level damage with the player or have damage based on the player's weapons, which means they can still be effective without being maxed out, again allowing for a high degree of versatility. The areas are also much more open and varied- basically the change is similar to the change between Diablo and Diablo 2, and is quite welcome. Seems like I've got until Thursday to keep trying out the game, so I'll be getting in as much playing as I can during that time.

Oh, and the game was running for around 5 hours straight and not a single connection error. Suck it Blizzard.
