Lone3wolf: Supported? Companies actually support real RPGs these days? I thought they died with NWN and Baldur's, and Eye of the Beholder..... :(
Eh, NWN was hardly a real RPG. MoTB maybe, which shows that every once in a while devs still come up with some good stuff that's actually successfull. See also DA:O. It's not on par with BG but it's the darn best to come out in years and should satisfy all RPG fans save those that have entrenched themselves a bit too deep over on RPGCodex.

Diablo 3 will be a heavily streamlined APRG, probably with focus on the A. It'll be the best of it's kind to date, of course.

We can still hope for Skyrim ... BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Export: As I said in my last post, even putting pre-orders aside, it outsold DAO week by week. I'm not sure where you're getting 5+ million sales for Origins from, either. About a year ago it had sold 3.2 million worldwide (according to EA themselves).
No it didn't dude. DA2 sales cut off sharply after a few weeks, DA:O sales went pretty much opposite before cutting off.

The 3.2 million copies figure is for physical copies shipped by EA. It doesn't count digital copies, sold via all major DD outlets, including Steam. DA:O also sold very heavily during Steam sales, so a figure of ~5 million total is fairly realistic. On top of that, perhaps you could count in the GOTY release which came last fall.

look at all the console fan bois ruining another thread ^ dont u have a console to play ?
I want Witcher 2 to be for consoles simply because my computer can't play it and the fact is I seen multiple times people on forums meeting the minimum requirements for a game and still having a problem playing it! Also, since most RPGs are ported to consoles nowadyas, the only game that came out recently that is a PC exclusive that I can't play that I'm interested in is witcher 2. I'm not going to spend like hundreds of dollars on a computer to play a single game! Also, from the fact it uses the xbox 360 controller and the way the game seems to play, it seems like it is very console friendly game design.

Also, I think if RPGS have gone down in quality from the time of Baldur's Gate, Planescape:Torment and Arcanum I would blame it on the fact that everything is voiced in games nowadyas. Imagine how much one would have to spend to pay for all the voice acting in a game like Planescape:Torment if it was every line.

now i know everyone just hates me because i hate consoles.. and i cant help but be a passionaite pc gamer that only wants the best for the PC community but i have to say it..

If your computer cant run this game at a comfortable FPS all u need to do is upgrade your old machine.. now upgrading will benefit you in many ways not just to play this 1 game but to play all other games.. When it comes to technology it always goes up! u cant just sit around and force companies to push out products to you on a outdated platform.. u need to make some effort! if you need help on installing a video card, motherboard or cpu im happy to help you figure it out.. its very easy! and not that expensive unless you wanna go uber powerful.. Ull be suprised on how much better a upgraded computer is over a very anicent piece of crap console :)

And with your upgraded computer ull be able to plug it into a big tv and use your console gamepad! at 10x the performance! at 10X the visual quality :) youll be very happy once u get it all done..

Im here if u need help marcus :) join the jedi! and get away from the dark side

Just want to say I find it odd on a site called good old games that someone can care so much about graphics. =) But the computer I'm using is a laptop so no new special 3d card for a SINGLE game. Perhpas consoles are holding games back but at the same time, there really hasn't been any good RPG exclusives besides the Witchers in the last few years.

I mean, if games like Arcanum, fallouts, and Planescape; Torment were still coming out and only being PC exclusive then it would be worth looking into.

thanks marcus for not being like the other console bigots ive seen hating on every thread and by giving my oppinion the benefit of the doubt to be true :)

Its a sad reality that the big rich companies are forcing the entire gaming community to stay back 6+ years ago to cater for there old consoles. I know its not the console users fault but there not making it easy. The console community is letting it happening and i havent really seen much of a outcry for a better console from them. If the console community voiced there oppinion on a large scale and all said they wanted a new console than we wouldnt be so hard done by.

Every developer except a rare few is making console games and letting there console games release on PC. Pc gaming is slowly dying because of these old consoles and i just want to see technology going forward instead of backward.

Did u see that new video on the new unreal engine ? wouldnt it be great for a console to be able to play that quality ? It be great for everyone. Just wish console community would voice there love for quality and make the fat cats push out a better console to keep creativity alive in gaming

Don't know if I agree on this simply because you got to remember for a company to make games using even better graphics cost even more money. Making a game the size and type of Arcanum in 2D is probably a lot cheaper than making Elder Scrolls Oblivion for instance so if anything the push for greater graphics may be LIMITING creativity by making it more of a hurdle for companies to make games so if anything the consoles may actually be giving more of a chance for a greater variety of games!
its not just about graphics.. if we wasnt forced due to consoles the environments could be much larger, the multiplayer could be much larger there could be alot more content..

so much stuff can be accomplished thanks to new technology.. old technology cripples games unless there arcade games or other small indie games that dont go for what im talkin about

this.
IMHO, with such big budgets, what keeps them from making console versions suited for consoles and PC versions suited for PCs? Or is it more cost effective to port less demanding console version to pc and save yourself the development cost. That's lazy and combined with money grabbing urge to satisfy every person on this planet from 9 to 99 years old is some of the reasons PC gaming is getting more and more simple games. If only some developer would have the balls to develop only for pc and develop for RPG players, not for my mom or wife who enjoy their farmville and angry birds but couldn't care less for a proper RPG with an epic story and complex game mechanics.
As for the witcher series, I'm currently playing part one and IMHO my overall experience is awesome. It has everything I want in a game and I hope it lasts me for a couple of weeks before I sink my teeth into witcher 2.

But, does such a thing even need 3d graphics or any of the advance technology of the last ten years? To make a game the size of let's say Arcanum with as much nonlinear and content would cost a ridiculous amount in a game made for contemporary computers and there probably wouldn't be enough people buying the game to make up for the cost.

What I would personally like is if Bioware, Obsidan, CDproject or whoever else would have a smaller team work on some huge 2d games that could be played on any pc made in the last 10 years. Only have voice in specific sections like in Planescape: Torment or Arcanum. The games would probably cost way less than making some game with advanced 3d graphics but yet with computers from the last decade would probably be easier to make than they were back in the 90s I'm guessing. The costs would be less, people who care less about graphics and more about gameplay/story would be happy to be able to play an RPG like the old ones which seems there probably still a decent amount of people wanting to play these kind of games. (Which seems to be the case considering a site like GOG even exists)

Well, maybe not the size of arcanum but it seems form watching an interview with Tim Cain not that many people worked on the first fallout and it seemed relatively cheap to make compared to let's say Falloout 3. Why can't there be more games being made like the first fallout in other words still today?

I got this idea from how it seems like big movie companies sometimes make movies that have smaller budgets but may still make money because they don't need to be seen by as many people. I'm not expert about any of this, just going by very little information that I have scattered in my head but it seems like a good idea to me....

addendum- maybe wrong about fallout one seems like it had some prominent voice actors... but it seemed from this one interview it was mostly what a few people did left by themselves. also, maybe it was just the early stages of the designing of fallout one only a few people were working on it. oh wellz.

all the companies u mentioned are the big companies that are selling out and making games simple and console like < And the cost of making the PC games im talking about is really not that expensive as u think... most of the engines are premade and can be licensed..this eliminates the need to build an entire engine < it makes things sooo much easier.. so yea its not really all that expensive..its just a matter of time really..the time they would like to spend to make a better bigger product

i understand your point though but im saying there should be a few companies who should stay true to PC ..so people like me still get some benefit from current technology.. i dont want them all to do what im saying

thekingcasper: This game is a masterpiece full of great ideas and a large beautiful world! the entire team who created this game deserve alot of credit because they pulled it off brilliantly! The big fat cats say that PC gaming is a thing of the past and Console is the new gaming platform! but with games like Witcher 2 being PC exclusive and really benefiting from all the PC hardware maybe theyll see this and think twice!

The community has really came through and alot of people who would usually pirate games have bought this game as a thank you for taking faith in PC and also for the DRM FREE you have offered us.

Please take all the kind words you get from the PC community and never forget us! keep the Witcher a PC exclusive game and bring out many more in the future.

Thanks for the experience you deserve my money :)
They already plan a console port, will it sour your game that you were just gushing about knowing that?

In fact, they built the engine for the purpose of having it easily portable - according to the bonus DVD I got with the game.
