While RPS does indeed have several bias issues, and that particular article is more sensationalistic than it really needs to be, a lot of Ubisoft's DRM hate is well-deserved. Stuff like server maintenance and outages and bandwidth flooding are basic issues that were either not addressed or were never considered. So it doesn't automatically invalidate it, but you should keep some salt handy.

You know what is disgusting about THQ's strategy, IMO? DLCs.
I'm tired of going into every THQ title and have 3, 10, 15 DLCs. Seriously, keep that for the vanilla game, don't try to be a smartass in cutting a game in multiple parts.
1 or 2 expansions? that's fine, but not 15 DLCs.
Another company who does this is 2K.
Are you sure? THQ is being delisted from NASDAQ.
Rumors of the Warhammer MMO cancellation, layoffs every week, etc
One thing that could save them is Homeworld 3, but they are too busy making DLCs.

Aningan: Bad decisions have repercussions. Good! It's how it's supposed to be.
I'm sick and tired of these greedy bastards taking one bad decision after another, and most of them being anti-consumer, and still be able to come of top. And I'm not referring just to THQ here.
Fred_DM: the repercussions should be limited to the decision makers, though. what usually happens is that the entire company suffers, and that sucks. Optional cosmetic DLC that don't affect game play at all. What MONSTERS!I'm tired of going into every THQ title and have 3, 10, 15 DLCs. Seriously, keep that for the vanilla game, don't try to be a smartass in cutting a game in multiple parts.

Greed is still greed, isn't it? Ask the THQ suits, ask the automotive industry's suits, etc.
Monsters? seriously, I'm not (low to say it) like that. If something or a company practice disgusts me I just won't buy such products, not call them monsters.
I bet the DLC subject alone was discussed in multiple threads here, I don't want to derail. Just mentioned my opinion as one of the things that may, may be wrong in THQ.

Wait, "most" or "all", that's a big difference with regards to your original claim? I mean, it's good that it's not as bad as I thought because I looked at it at one point and almost crapped my pants thinking how ridiculous it was, so I'm actually kind of happy to hear that. Still, it feels kind of weird seeing 20+ DLCs, I wonder if that turned off some people from buying because they thought they'd be "missing" too much of the content.

Crassmaster: Yep. Most of it is cosmetic armor for the various Imperial and Chaos legions. I bought some of it, but that's because I'm a 40K nerd. :)

er, the Wargear DLC packs for DoW2 Retribution aren't cosmetic. they are functional items you can equip your Last Stand or Campaign heroes with. particularly early on they can make a difference.
i don't get what the issue is supposed to be with the DLC. yes, there is a lot of it but all of it is optional, and some of it is purely cosmetic. and when you can get the stuff bundled and at 66-75% off during promos and sales, the purchase becomes a no-brainer, IMO.

But you don't need any of it to actually play and enjoy the game. You don't NEED your Space Marines to be Imperial Fists or your Chaos war band to be Word Bearers to enjoy the game. I do agree with you on not getting what is wrong with DLC though. The mindset some gamers have of essentially 'DLC=eval' is ridiculous.
