That's kind of what I meant by tweeking. There are a lot of old DOS games on GOG that I can get free (legally and non) but figuring out DOS box, while easy for a smart person, is a trial for yours truly. GOG takes care of it for me and I don't mind spending a few bucks for that; mind you I wouldn't pay $20 for it but I can push $5.

Play it. Love it. I have the entire series, including the "precursor" X-Men Legends games... crap, now I want to pull them out again. Looks like I'll be dusting off my PS2 this afternoon.

Regardless of whether or not a game is being actively marketed and sold, someone somewhere still owns the rights to sell and/or distribute that game and it is illegal to distribute it without their permission. Those rights cannot be "abandoned" and do not expire. It is the textbook definition of software piracy. All "abandonware" is illegally provided for download, except in those incredibly rare cases where a rights holder has given permission to distribute, which makes the game "freeware" not "abandonware". Just because some rights holders don't choose to prosecute "abandonware" (it's usually not worth the expense) does not make it any less illegal.

If a developer/publisher no longer cares to sell/support their game, via a distributor like GOG or otherwise, then it's fair game, they obviously do not care about the game and do not want gamers to see it.
It's because of dumbass opinions like yours that the heritage and history of PC gaming is being forgotten, because the developer went bankrupt over a decade over and the legal files are probably gathering dust in some abandoned office space.
Also, stop word dropping "illegal" like it's some kind of bomb. You sound like less of a gamer and more of a fanboy, which is probably why you have all that delicious Rep amirite? Less time shitposting on forums and more time playing games you for champ.

You ever play Marvel Ultimate Alliance? Every time I see your avatar I feel compelled to have a go. Granted GR isn't the strongest character in the game but he has the coolest looking special moves.

From the "Law" section on Wikipedia:
"n most cases, software classed as abandonware is not in the public domain, as it has never had its original copyright officially revoked and some company or individual may still own rights. While sharing of such software is usually considered copyright infringement, in practice copyright holders rarely enforce their abandonware copyrights and may allow the product to de facto lapse into the public domain to such an extent that enforcement becomes impractical.
Rarely has any abandonware case gone to court. But it is still unlawful to distribute copies of old copyrighted software and games, with or without compensation, in any Berne Convention signatory country."

As for my rep, I got that by actively participating in these forums in a (mostly) positive way for over 4 years now; answering peoples questions, not flying off the handle for no good reason, generally being decent to anyone here. You might try doing that yourself sometime.
