Blackdrazon: I've got to agree. I saw a trailer for The Graveyard (on Steam) and there's really nothing you could add by actually playing it. And it IS boring. If I hadn't known they were the people doing The Path, I would never have bothered to see what they were building up to. I seem, according to their opinion, to fit into a category where I like their concept, am turned off by the actual experience, and think it's "boring". Of course, I feel the same about the raft sequence in Illusion of Gaia: while the dull slowness of the scene adds to the immersion of what your character is experiencing at that time, the fact remains that, oddly enough, something that's boring is, unfortunately, "boring", and people have a right to dislike them.
(At least The Graveyard isn't punctuated by Kara's irritating lectures).

The fact that your Canadian invalidates everything you say, have said, or ever will say on these messageboards... forever.

bansama: Not from developers who think gamers are the lowest form of human civilisation simply because they didn't like The Graveyard.

I'll go ahead and point out they never actually said that.

bansama: Yeah, The Path looked interesting. But I won't by buying it. Not from developers who think gamers are the lowest form of human civilisation simply because they didn't like The Graveyard. Attitudes like that do not win sales.

I think what they were upset about were people complaining that there weren't any undead to fight off in the game. They said they respected people who were interested in what it was all about, but found it boring when they actually played it.
I don't think it's right to not buy a game just because it's made by people we don't like. I think Bobby Kotick is a Class A. Asshole, but that doesn't keep me from buying Call of Duty games (made by Infinity Ward).

The same way I think Christian Bale is a dick (albeit probably through some sort of mental disorder that he may not have any control over) but I can still enjoy the new Batman movies.

How do you arrive at that conclusion when the article is written by Michael Samyn the so called "Process Director" of Tales of Tales?

Simply by reading the article.
The article was written by one of the people who created the game. Ergo, that devolper said (wrote) it. So I still fail to see how you misread this:
Of course there is the expected response of the typical gamers whose desire for zombies whenever they see a cemetery is apparently insatiable. They tended to describe The Graveyard as "boring". Of course.
A little bit up the ladder of human civilisation, we find the people who were turned on by the idea but turned off by the actual experience. They were "disappointed". From what we can see, this was either caused by a failure on our part to maximize the qualities of the game or by certain expectations coming from the player.

It is not a quote from anyone else, that is Michael's opinion on why The Graveyard got the reactions it did.
So, has anyone played/started it? I'm a bit on the fence about getting it, so I want to know what others think of it.

JudasIscariot: This looks awesome! I hope it comes out for a reasonable price. I haven't played a good horror game since the original Alone in the Darks.
Only things that bothered me about the description were the words "short" and "accessibility". I hope the game isn't too short and if the controls don't make Gothic 1's control scheme look easy then it is for newbs </sarcasm>.
Thanks TheCheese for showing us the link!
the path is currently discounted on steam

No escape menu? How do you take a break from playing the game? Do you have to keep it on or something? If so, that's really stupid.

If you love The Path, you must try The Graveyard too. It is from same developer and game is so ehmm... Creepy.
All these reviews about it make me think the game's gonna creep (and maybe even scare) the hell out of me. They want you to find the hypothetical "wolf"? I knew that you would encounter it; I had no idea that you seek it out yourself. That's kind of screwed up, but with all these great reviews of the game, I have to play it. One website said it's similar to Silent Hill 2 in the scares it gets from you. I never got far in SH2 (I came to it five years after it had come out, and couldn't stand the controls), so I'd love to experience that kind of horror that goes to uncomfortable places.
What do you think of it so far? Does it do any of that pop-out shit? Scratches got me bad at the end with something like that. There you are, looking around for this creature in the basement the whole game, and once you find it...****! RUN!

Unfortunately, I am one of those users who has a computer that The Graveyard doesn't work on for some reason. The old lady just keeps walking in place, never actually moving.

I'm really not sure what to think of it so far, tbh it bored the heck out of me, but that was maybe because I didn't explore a lot (didn't see any good reason to as there wasn't anything interesting in sight, and my character moves too slowly). I'll play it some more.
I see mixed reviews out there. Some commend the attempt to go outside the boundaries of comfort and traditional gaming others being bothered and even offended by its underlining message. All agree though that its not optimised all that well.
Me? I cant say that I'm disturbed by its undeniably brutal and sexual nature. But I don't see getting my money worth here. Id be happy to hear from the people who already got and played it though. Not regarding the story (as I already know what happens) but rather how it made you guys feel? Were you revolted? Sad or surprised? What did you take away from the experience?
