brendano: ...
I think people aren't really crossing the line, as the line of stupidity does not exist.

Anyways, the negative people are the most vocal on the internet, just like in real life. That's why you see more hate posts, than love posts. Don't bother about it, the companies that get the hate don't complain about it, nor do they bother about this, so neither should you.

Taking you on ME3's ending or D3's colors, why the hell should a designer or story writer listen to what some idiots cry about... it is his design / story.

You don't go on bitching about it when a book ends without an end, and make useless YouTube videos and some similar crap that no-life retards only do. You say, oh, okay, so that is how the story ends, okay. The rest is left for the reader to imagine and figure out.

(yea, I am using offensive words, /care)
By the way, being a gamer now for twenty years, I actually consider this the "golden age" of gaming. I never had more fun (well, I had, but due to non-gaming related reasons like age) in gaming than today. I never payed less and gaming has never been this diverse. Especially since that whole indie market exploded, there is probably a game about everything and for everyone. Of course there are quite a few downsides to it, but they are dwarfed by the benefits.

So I really won't complain about anything. Well, there are a few classics GOG could finally release .... ;-P

(I always wanted to make a whole thread about this, but this just fits here. Maybe I still will)

+1

And especially golden for the eSports community... Oh, I so much hope they do their best to make D3 eSports-compatible!

And Valve get their heads together and do a CS sequel like the title deserves!

We're going off topic, but anyways, I really like his behavior and enthusiasm. If a company I was running was making billions every year, and most of its employees were making hundreds of thousands, many even millions, I'd be running too, even naked and wild if I have to, on a stage!

I'd say the Golden age was 77' to the 90s. The Atari 2600, Mario, Doom, SimCity 2000...etc...

QC: I demand that people have MORE self-entitlement and negativity!!!
I think it goes a little bit differently.

I am sure there should be more entitlement and negativity. There is so much positivity and humbleness I can not sleep at night! This is horribly intolerable and absolutely unacceptable! All of this is just too bad - the gaming community must change because this is the way I see how it should be!
Oh man OP, why have you made me do this?

As with everyone you're Narrowing down the EA scandal JUST to the ME ending and not considering the build up before the outburst, IE dragon age 2 and general EA bullshittery.

Sonic fans have been shat on for years with terrible quality games and are being promised a good return to the good ol' days that doesn't quite play right, the complaining fans want it fixed more than anyone else.

Silent hill fans have, yet again been shat on throughout the years with poor quality games, a HD collection missing one of the big titles, as well as being handled in a way that pissed the creator off, complaining about resources being diverted towards a crappy vita game with no identifiable mechanic for long term fans.

GOG promised to all of the fans a legendary RPG would be released for free during a conference only the massive fans would be watching anyway, telling them all this release is for them to say thank you while adding a little side note that new fans could enjoy it too, only to release the second best selling title for free, a free release i've only seen support from people who either own the game on disc unlikely to repurchase, or never had any interest before the release. Personally I don't see this as much of a reward to those loyal fans.

By all means I still appreciate GOG and know that this 'scandal' isn't on the level of the others you mention OP but it's still a move that made me lose a little faith in GOG marketing, which is never a good thing.. GOG say they listen to us, so we tell them what we don't think sits right.

The 'entitlement' ends when companies stop treating their consumers like idiots or thieves and actually do those jobs you're telling us we're making it hard for them to do, the fans didn't purposely tell konami to remove as much fog as they could, revealing the edges of the scenes, konami did that themselves. Fans don't want sonic and friends, just sonic, but we still end up forced to play as big the dumbass cat.
So, who is going to take the bet that, ones the Fallout promo is over, people will be complaining they missed it and bitch about it being to short to notice?

Anyone?

Speaking of which, I so missed getting Broken Sword for free. How dare they make me pay for it since I forgot to add it to my list that time? =P

I agree, the self-entitlement some people show is beyond ridiculous. It's like they're getting off on bitching and complaining. Boy, am I glad I'm not one of those people, not to mention the time it saves me not frothing at the mouth. As it has been already said, it's an internet thing. What else is new? ;)

definitely, people will create accounts just to complain bout the fact they missed it, then they'll leave having never spent a penny and never intending too.
Part of it, I believe, is in the advertising. When Grandma starts telling a kid in November that she got something real special for them for Christmas the kid gets very excited and spends the next several weeks mentally going over every thing they have ever asked for and trying to recall wether or not Grandma was present while talking about. Regardless of what it may be, anything is better than that horrible red sweater they got from Grandma last year. By the time Christmas rolls around the excitment level in that kid is off the scale. When they open the present and it another sweater the level of disappointment is proportional to the level of excitement. If Grandma had not said anything at all there would have been no dissapointment, but Grandma oversold herself.

Now lets apply this to the recent GOG conference. They anounced the conference and said that it was full of goodies for The Witcher 2 and there will be a free "Legendary" RPG given away free as a gift to loyal customers. The boards were awash with what those goodies might be as well as what free title would be given out. Expectations skyrocketed based on rumor and hearsay and this is what caused such levels of disappointment and anger. If GOG had simply said "Join us live while we talk Witcher 2 for 45 minutes followed by some discussion about where GOG is headed in the future" then, while yes there would have still been much speculation, the expectations would not have been as high and the announcement of a free game would have been an unexpected bonus and not the sole reason someone was viewing the stream. Especially if they did a Jobsian "One more thing" announcment and said

"We noticed that one of our favorite RPGs seems to have been overlooked by a very large portion of our customers. Those of you who already have it know what a shame it is that some of your fellow GOGers have maybe never even played it. So for the next 48 hours any one who doesn't have it in thier GOG account or has never played it; go ahead and pickup a copy of Fallout free of charge. We know you'll love it"

There still would have been some people who complain "I just bought Fallout yesterday!" But nobody would be saying, "I missed part of my own wedding to watch this because I wanted a free game and it's something I already bought!!!!"

This is not to pick on GOG (seriously, I love these guys) because all companies do it. They promise to make a game for a specific target audience but instead go out of thier way to make it "accessible", "casual", "streamlined" or whatever other buzzwords to show that there is something for everyone and not just the target audienced they made promises to. If they sell a sequel as the most incredibly epic ending to a the story imaginable, they had better deliver. If they say the game offers superior single/multi player experience, that feature better not be tacked on just for marketing. While I agree that some of the complaints are pretty silly, a lot them are due to the company putting out more hype than they should.
