Weclock: I haven't played the new Amnesia game, but I would like to come to it's defense.
From what I understand the horror is more supposed come from the story, as opposed to the mechanics.
Which explains why the mechanics are different and that it's linear.
It's basically a spooky story with minimal interaction.
I think the devs accomplished what they set out to do, but I am not sure why it's considered a sequel.
The last line is the main reason we don't like it. When something is advertised as the sequel to Amnesia, we expect it to feature at least similar mechanics and a terrifying atmosphere.
Especially considering some of the big things they advertised were that the game would by no means be a hand-holder, and that it would be even more tense than the original Dark Descent.
Mainly, I think the big disappointment is that we wanted a successor to Amnesia, yet we received a successor to Dear Esther instead.
