At least you can play it. I got the original Amnesia only to find out it's too fast for my OS.
Lack of "sanity" and hunting for matches means I might actually enjoy it, honestly. The original was too tense for me.

More linear sucks though.

I really can't see it benefitting from reduced gameplay elements. It's a horror-themed game, therefore it lives or dies on the maintaining of tension.

The idea that was first evident in Penumbra; having to avoid looking at the stalking creatures in order to remain hidden, which developed into Amnesia's fear-of-the-dark mechanic; was absolutely instrumental to creating that tension. Judging by what we're hearing, it's been taken out without anything really to replace it.

Amnesia was kind of minimal on gameplay in the first place, making it more minimal seems...odd.

It seems like a really easy game... (?_?)

Crosmando: I feel so cheated GOG, how could you do this to me, I thought GOG release was the assuring of a good game

xxxIndyxxx: nah they dropped the G together with the O, didn't you get the memo? ;P
Way before that actually. There were already some lemons when I joined.

Most of the filtering is done by reviewers, always. Perhaps it's for the best as even the worst of lemons will have it's proponents.

Look at what professional critics write, look at aggregated user review scores and try to find gameplay footages also.

Of course it benefits if I didn't like the elements they removed.

That's a degenerate and selfish mindset. The game has been completed casualized from the original Dark Descent.

I suppose it does come down to opinion, but it just seems like such a drastic choice for what is essentially a sequel.

WBGhiro: To be honest Sensible Soccer and some other interplay titles that some could rightfully consider sub-par were on here since the site started.
Yeah i was joking. I know they had bad games back then too. And I agree even bad games can be games some people really want...

Ah, no, it's a matter of taste.

I guarantee you that I could find quite a few elements to add to your favorite games that you should find quite distasteful.

It's not that hard to imagine really.

Everything the o.p. describes makes me want to instabuy the game. The simpler and more linear the game, the better it is. I need my hand held to fully enjoy a game. I also need really good graphics.

Except that this game was a sequel to Dark Descent, so when you're removing things you are messing around with the original fans and their hopes. Actively wanting features removed from a game and not caring about the effect this has on the series as a whole, as well as the original fans, just because you don't like those features, is the very definition of selfish.

PC gaming itself is a graveyard of franchises ruined by developers who made disloyal sequels which took a giant dump on the original game and it's fans in the hope of more casual gamers (like StingingVelvet).

Calling me a casual gamer because we disagree makes you look silly. Don't be so reactionary.

I am someone who has bitched about changes made to FPS and RPG games for over a decade now, I get the criticism of simplifying games. At the end of the day though I recognize it's all opinion. I get that horror fans are getting shafted, but I can't lie and pretend I don't find the game more my style now that they have changed it. Pretending I agree with you would make me a poser asshole.
