StingingVelvet: Do we have a thread about
this insane bullshit yet?
even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen
StingingVelvet: When your faith makes you look this ignorant and callous perhaps it's time to reexamine that faith. I'm just sayin'. The entire Republican party suffers severe retardation by putting these people up for election (teehee).
The whole issue ends up being about what you consider human life and what you're willing to protect.
In the holocaust, a bunch of people said that some people weren't people at all (Jews, disabled). So it was fine to kill them.
Many people feel that is exactly what's going on with unborn children. They're not "people," they're "parasites" (don't fit the definition) or "fetuses" (true) or part of a woman's body (not technically true, but sort of -- if considering what is directing the growth, not facilitating the energy for it).
So, some people say "Life is life. Human is human. Rape or not, there is a human being involved that didn't do anything wrong and it is wrong to murder."
The gravity of the situation has nothing to do with women's rights to those who see the unborn as humans capable of being murdered. It has everything to do with defending those who cannot defend themselves.
Now, I'm not going to say that the situation is simple. I think a woman does have choices to make. I also think that the baby is innocent. The situation is very complicated. But some people say "Let the woman make the ultimate choice," some say "We should pressure the woman to make the ultimate choice one way or the other," and some say "Murder is murder, this should be illegal."
I hope everyone can at least understand each side without calling people bigots, retarded or broadly accuse religion of rape, denial of women's rights, etc.
Perhaps everyone is making convenient excuses to back their view. Babies certainly are people and pro-lifers aren't all religious. But some folks are actually thinking and choosing. And it's important to understand their arguments if you want to make progress.
