Sogi-Ya: TDM is a mod tool box, not a mod mission. you install TDM and then download and play fan missions in it, I think that the only "mission" it comes with is the training map and that is just to teach you how to use the mechanics of the mod. Lowyhon is being nice, I'm not: you full of shit! Either you haven't played it at all or you put so little effort into trying it out that it was luck that you even got it installed correctly. my guess is on the former and your just fan-boi-ing for Thief 2X without even knowing shit about TDM. *edit* sry, that was rude ... the general statement still stands because there is no way you could get that far off base about the FMs built with TDM unless you have no idea about how it works, but I shouldn't have gone so troll about it. each mission for TDM is unique because each mission is made by completely different people, saying that the "TDM is boring" is like saying that all UE3 mods are dude-bro shooters.
Fair enough! But when I played TDM only 4-5 FM's were out and because TDM is fully dependent on how good the FM are then it's possible that I just played the wrong ones. I'll also admit I didn't really give it that much time because ID Tech 4 engine just rubbed me the worng way.
Besides it's not like the TDM engine doesn't look pretty even in this age. I'd really like to see them make a new IP out of it, but that's highly unlikely I guess.

Dishonored was great fun, but I miss the methodical pacing of the Thief games.
no contest that some of the missions are crap (I honestly found no fun in the one where you had to sneak into a bar or something but every step to getting in was convoluted and generally degraded to "kill everyone because searching for the hidden key to the next room will take a half hour") but the tool set is solid and if something is sub par it is more to do with the level's builder than what it is built out of.

the level where you have to sneak into a hammerite (err ... the not-hammerite-because-that-is-trademarked) church was professional grade.
There is definitely a mix in the standard of the missions available for the Mod, but a couple of things to remember...

They're only getting better as time goes by and the modders get to grips with the toolset. Some are now approaching professional grade and there are campaigns in the offing for those who like their missions to hang together with a story.

They're free! There are nearly 60 separate missions available for download - something for everyone....

This makes me want to get Doom 3 only to play this... But it's rather expensive on amazon.co.uk.

Do give it another shot. Much has improved since then, and quite a few great missions came out.

I believe I've read somewhere that some of the missions atm don't require Doom 3, but I will check and get back to you.
Bloody hell, I've just finished the mission that comes with the newest Dark Mod update and ... Let me begin by the fact that I hate stealth games with passion. I never could creep around, I've never had the patience to watch enemy patrols, I never did any of that. Except for Thief games, for whatever reason. And Dark Mod is ... It's Thief, remastered, with some new fatastic features, and absolutely amazing graphics. It's a shining example of why modding's a good thing. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant.
Agreed. Can't wait for them to get the campaign out and head for standalone. It's really going to be exciting once they achieve the latter. We may start seeing more stealth-based games too, and not just in the Thief/dark steampunk setting, when people start taking an interest in DarkRadiant.

TDM is a milestone achievement in terms of modding. There have been very impressive mods for Source and UE3 before, but few come close to the way in which TDM uses new-gen technology to link back to the old school, to create a product of technical excellence.

Fenixp what did you think of St Lucia? Impressive wasn't it, especially with the way the creator made use of Doom 3's physics and lighting to carry forward some really cool ideas?

Heh, I love how can you use placement of light sources to precisely track movement of guards just by looking at their shadows. I've even placed a few candles here and there so I always know where someone is. The rest was graphics design - which was absolutely stunning, especially coupled with sound design. When I walked that dark alley for the first time, I was troughoutly impressed by the ammount of detail they've put into it.

And then I started discovering secret rooms, side passages, and... Well the entire level was big, and there were I think 3 or 4 ways to even get into the church. I disliked the placement of key leading into the sewers, had to look into a walktrough to find that, but the rest of that particular level was a professional work. Actually, when I look at how majority of professional work looks, I'm probably insulting this one.
You didn't like the key in the vase? :(

Nope, not at all. If all alternative paths didn't lead trough the sewers, I would think it's a pretty neat secret, but as it is, you pretty much have to find it.
Did you get the notes from the adulterous pair? There are two notes between them that give some clue as to where the key is stashed.

RPS has an article featuring the game: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/10/22/outta-dunwall-thief-remake-the-dark-mod-updates/

So does PC Gamer:

Ok, I saw talk on their patch notes about a standalone version...but I can't find any other information...is there any? A release date, price structure? The setting and such catches my attention, but now I'm not sure about functionality with the BFG Edition (As I hadn't purchased Doom 3 on it's own).

Given how community-driven the entire project is, I doubt it'll be paid when it comes out standalone. That said, it didn't come out that way yet, and I could see some paid campaigns coming out for it.
