Yes, very interested by the setting. I like the "first contact" effect of the first X-Com, and this was lost in the sequels, which were just sci-fi tactics, with little atmosphere (space guys versus space thingies).

UFOs and aliens are fun when they are all new and odd and strange. They belong to twilight zone, this island earth, earth versus the flying saucers, etc. I have naively high hopes for this game to capture this as well as the original x-com is.

And I don't care about the actual title or franchise it's supposedly attached to.
I'm very tempted to get it but I'm afraid it will be linear and short. I'm pretty confident I would like it but I'm not willing to pay release price for a game unless I'm sure it's long and/or had plenty of replayability.

This is my fear too, with many new games actually. This one also doesn't seem to have any of the strategy elements I would expect from a game slapped with X-COM.
Apparently you are able to slow down time and issue orders to your teammates, and I saw a preview in which the person playing it seemed to spend most of its time doing that, so it's not turn-based but it looks like they are still trying to incorporate some strategy into it.

To answer your question then: yes, I do intend to buy it, but not at launch.

I'm hoping it works out well. I've also seen extensive use of the strategic menu in the video's. My worry there though is whether the game will actually require use of it. I really hope so, because there were moments in the video where the guy simply went on his own for a bit and just running in and killing appeared really effective compared to the squad play he used throughout most of the rest of the video.

That and replayability are my concerns.

Tactical combat yes, but not the strategy elements of research, nation happiness and so on. There are side missions apparently, and you can choose to go on them, so there must some kind of a mission choice at least. So who knows, but I didn't hear a word of it yet.
It looks like "yet another generic cover based third person shooter" that just happens to be called X-Com something for some reason. Haven't seen or heard anything that could interest me in it yet.

So no, no interest into buying it unless it is ever released on GoG.
Frankly, I like the thematic elements/enemies of the initial design a whole lot better. The redesign just looks lackluster to me. Well, people wanted something more X-COM-y, so they got it, but I'm not wild about it. Not being able to pause to give commands rubs me the wrong way, too. I'll pass.
I will buy it in the future when it is on sale.

Well this is a shooter after all, and not a full blown strategy game. I just meant it as a rebuttal to those in this thread that called it just another mindless cover based shooter, which does not appear to be the case.
I will buy it if it shows up on gog. =P
I fear it will be terrible. Not because it's more of an action game but because they ddin't know what they want to make themselves. First they wanted to make an FPS, because hey that's popular and to be honest that's what the developer had most experience with. They had some strange ideas but it grew on me and had a look and feel that was different and interesting.

Then apparently it didn't really work and in combination with the serious backlash from the community they thought: OK what else is popular. Okay we know: cover based third person shooter, let's do that instead and drop everything new and Original because we don't want to take risks. Then the enemy unknown remake came out and contrary to Publisher believes it was a succes so now are the tactical elements back in and so on and so on.

Suffice to say i don't really have faith in such a development parcours. I get this info out of a video the developers made when they revealed this new appraoch and title. What they though i read between the lines ;) to be honest they almost said it like this too ( it felt like it anyway and they didn't look all that sure of their product)..

Yeah, I also got the same impression from some of the videos I have seen over time as well. It's very hard to tell what *exactly* the game itself will truly be like. On one hand, I feel pretty encouraged that it appears, on the fly planning and careful strategic use of your men is required to accomplish a mission with your team intact (or at least mostly), and the fact that you may be able to slow time down (always, or perhaps only sometimes based on some game element or requirement? who knows?) while issuing orders looks nice. Like you though, if it's just as easy to loan wolf it, and run and gun/spray to accomplish the same ends, that would totally suck, and take away any appeal I might have for it. And of course, replayability without gross repetition is always nice. Concerns like these are why I won't rush into buying it at launch, but I am ever hopeful they have come up with another enjoyable XCOM game, that while it may be differernt, will still be a challenge and hell of a lot of fun to play. Time will surely tell...

Yeah I think I'll wait until after reviews and impressions. I'm sure I won't have to wait long to save the $10 I would have by preordering it.
I think it'l be interesting, although I'll wait and see for first impressions, and see how/if/when the game evolves through patches/dlc
