langurmonkey: The end does not justify the means and it has been proven that the torturing and killing of animals in laboratories does not provide the monsters who work there, any useful data.

amok: for cosmetics - maybe. For medical trials - invaluable data which can not be got in any other way (except if you prefer to do it humans.... preferably volunteers,.... and yes, I only use the basement to store chemicals, and no - it is not a soundproof room over there))
Well the end does not justify the means.
ok, I'm in :)

depends if you are the one with a child with diabetes or not....

Starmaker: 1. "Animals are better than people." WRONG. Nothing is better than people.
This is why eating cute animals is okay, and testing and experimenting on animals is awesome.

langurmonkey: If that is what you really think then GO FUCK YOURSELF AND I HOPE YOU BURN IN SOME KIND OF HELL. But I doubt any HELL in this universe would want a shit stain like you... So I hope you just burn for eternity in the place where shit burns for all eternity. Yeah, keep on low rating this post, you fucking whores.
This post made me laugh, probably because i misread "shit stain" as "Shit Stalin"

Also: I didn't downrep your post or anything but I have to agree with Starmaker here

Not true.

Where else do you get the insulin then ?

If you agree with "Nothing is better than people. This is why eating cute animals is okay, and testing and experimenting on animals is awesome." then you should downrep my post.

Ultimatum: Where else do you get the insulin then ?
If the price of insulin is the torturing and killing of animals, then I choose a world without insulin. And yes, I'd say the same thing living in a world without insulin while dying from diabetes. I'm not willing to violate beautiful life like that just to stay alive just like I wouldn't rape and kill children to preserve my life. There are also many other ways to get data that can help diabetic people with insulin. The torturing and killing of animals is just one option. Like I said, the end does not justify the means.

I didn't think you could dig yourself any deeper, but you just keep digging, soon you'll be at the Earth's core!

The vast majority of insulin used for medical purposes is synthetic.

I can not think about one single medical breakthrough which is not the result of animal testing at some point or another (and yes, even penicillin... the discovery is one thing, turning it into a medicine is another)

While I do not agree with the other thread, I find it somehow disrespecting towards life and death, I see no ethical reason between rising animals to be used for food or for medical experiments, the bottom line it is both are making use of live animals to ensure human survival.

(Cosmetic trials is something else, as it has nothing to do with survival.)

but how did it originally be discovered and manufactured? Would it be possible to make syntactical insulin today not doing the first steps those years ago?

Well, I really despise the torturing and killing of animals. And you are the one digging yourself to the core.

Yes, it would of been possible. Maybe the torturing and killing of animals is the easiest path to knowledge but it isn't the only one.

SimonG: Just this time, I completely agree with Starmaker.

Well, apart from that "Testing is awesome". I would rather say, "testing is necessary and should be done in the least harmful way".
I actually agree with you more often than you assume, it's just when I agree so completely there's nothing to add or correct, a post is a waste of space.

There's more to animal experimentation than testing substances; the [awesome] is pure research, specifically genetics and neuroscience. As for cosmetics (except hygiene products), I'm all for banning testing on animals; cosmetics are a feel-good issue and it's fair and well that they take a hit from another feel-good issue.
