I used to use Steam, mainly because I did not know that there were choices available. I never bought anything online from Steam as I felt that the copious amounts of personal information to make a simple five dollar purchase were fairly over the top.
I first found out about GOG while trying to find the perfect combination to get Blood working at an acceptable framerate on Dosbox. Lo and behold I kept finding mentions of a GOG that was selling a complete packaged version of Blood in an optimized will not take hours of my time plug and play bundle. I caved in, purchased it, and was impressed.
Months later, I keep coming back, and rarely use Steam unless it's for something that I already have, so that has something to say about the service. I try to direct others to GOG in the hopes that they'll spread the word as well.
If I complain, it's only because I care, and hope to see the best come out of what I already consider to be the most reliable option available. GOG may not make the best decisions all of the time, but they are in the process of evolving, and that involves trial and error.
So thanks GOG, for selling something that for once actually caters to both interest as well as convenience.
