MoP: Uhhh, now in the FAQ:
Will I be able to play “Project Fedora” DRM – Free?
Yes. Once you purchase “Project Fedora” it is yours! You may download it to as many supported devices that you own (PC or Mac).
So have they changed their minds, or are they outright, pardon the word, lying (maybe that's too strong, how about "confused")?
Yeah I think they're just confused. I hope they read this thread. Will I be able to play “Project Fedora” DRM – Free?

I'm a huge fan of the games (the first person ones, at least), but if they insist on shoving this, I'll be glad to take that $115 back. Makes it easier on the wallet after Pinkerton Road goes through.
hucklebarry: This was the response I got:
""Project Fedora" will be DRM-free in that once you purchase it you will have the ability to download it onto any supported device (PC or Mac)."
I don't think they know what DRM means :/ (by this definition, EVERY game is DRM-free)
Based on the quote from SirPri above, I'll pass on backing unless they update their stance. Maybe it will come to GOG a year or two after release?

How does any game designer in this age honestly not know what DRM is? I mean, really, the guy talks about "protecting their software" in his response to you, so he certainly knows its purpose and by mentioning online activation he's obviously aware of one of the prevalent methods as well. Considering their "carefully crafted" email responses to you and spindown, and their disingenuous FAQ entry, I think they're just lying to boost donations. That's the only reasonable explanation I can come up with, and it makes me angry as hell.

SirPrimalform: You could look at it a different way now though. The FAQ answer doesn't mention online activation, it just says: DRM-free.
In other words they've publicly stated it'll be DRM-free. They've kind of put themselves in a position now where they can't put online activation or any other kind of DRM on it.
Then again, I remember Ubisoft calling some of their games DRM-free when they required online activation too.In other words they've publicly stated it'll be DRM-free. They've kind of put themselves in a position now where they can't put online activation or any other kind of DRM on it.

SirPrimalform: How can that not be false advertising? o.0 Note that this is all according to what I've read, and I may remember slightly wrong.

Given their association with Big Fish Games, I had assumed they were hoping they could get BFG as their distribution platform once again.

Ah well what can ya do about it :(
Me, I'll just hold out for the inevitable GOG release, and maybe pick up the boxed version from eBay separately in the near future.
