Leucius: So in an effort to cut down on cost and eventually give up smoking entirely, I'm switching to e-cigs today with the occasional regular cigarette.

I'm hopeful that it works, I know my lung stash is starting to pay the price from years of smoking. Wish me luck!

Any tips from other former smokers besides the usual "Always have hard candy" etc? I know not to be around cigarettes if I can help it, and I am trying to tell myself that I'm stronger than the nicotine, but damn this addiction is fierce.
Switch to No-cigs because E-cigs are actually much worse for you. Sure you don't inhale as much garbage, but you inhale much more nicotine and you actually get addicted even more.
Noone will stuff the cigs in your mouth by force, so the easiest thing is just not buying a pack at the usual time when you regularly buy one.
just quit, spend your money on smth else

Cold turkey is tough to execute and it doesn't work for all people. I'm not sure if E-cigs will help. For me I smoke pipe tobacco once each weekend. I don't think I'm addicted. I can stop when I want to (I don't smoke if I'm ill and even when I get better I'll give it two weeks before I puff on anything). Some things you can try to help you off nicotine. Now keep in mind smoking a cigarette is much different than a cigar or pipe (you inhale the cigarette and puff on pipe/cigar) so mileage from my advice will vary. One thing you can do is try and reduce when you smoke as much as you can. Pick like one time of the day you'll smoke. Two don't smoke to relieve stress. It should be a time for relaxation and reflection, sort of like tea drinking, 3 pick a flavor you really like. I mean really like. This will probably mean going around to the smokeshop to find a quality cig, no more cookie cutter Camel/Marloboro's for you. The smoke should not be unsatisfying on any level. Eventually try and get yourself down to smoking once a week at a specific time and then see if you can go without every few weeks.
Thanks for the advice guys, but for you non smokers I was looking for smokers' advice. No offense, but you have no clue what we go through.

Cold turkey is not an option for me. Right now my goal is to transition from physical cigs to ecigs. I actually enjoy nicotine, so I am not ready to entirely give it up, but I AM ready to start saving money, which switching to ecigs will do for me.

Eventually yes, I want to give it up completely, but the way the ecigs hit me versus regular cigarettes is going to make it easier to put down after I first switch over completely to ecigs.

Thanks for all of your advice, regardless of whether you smoke or not. It IS appreciated :D
I stopped smoking some months ago after 14 years. Just went from 15~25 cigs a day to zero. However stupid that may sound, trying to stop doesn't work that well, if you want to stop just stop : I kept on smoking while I wrapped my mind around this idea, and one day I realized I was ready and just stopped.

Heavy mint helps but doesn't 'do the trick' indeed.
PM me if you want to share, I can give you more details on my process if you think you could use every bit of advice.

This is a fun vid about the topic, you may find it helpful. All in all you need to keep trying see what works for you - but the emphasis is on "keep trying"
How is the e-cig? I've thought about it, but is it strictly tobacco? I've tried those "100% tobacco" cigarettes and roll-your-owns, and they do nothing for me. My body must like all the other crap they put into cigs.

Thing is, I love to smoke. I'm not ready to quit yet. But when I am, I think it will help if I don't think of it as "missing out" on something. "Oh, I just ate; I'd be lighting up right now. I'm depriving myself." "Here I am in the car, I would normally be lighting up. I'm depriving myself." I think a big part of it is simply choosing which perspective to see it from. Try to think of a positive result from not lighting up when the desire hits. "Gee, my clothes don't stink." "Hey, my car doesn't smell like an ashtray." "Hey, I'm not coughing up phlegm." "Hey, I can blow this extra money on a hooker!" :-)
Good luck with that....you'll need it (better a very strong mindset).
If all else fail...there is a new way that blocks the receptors in the brain which are responsible for the luck feeling you get smoking (3/4 success). I hassle my doc about it since last year.
Atm my try to stop it are cigarillos.....from around 60 cigs/day to 10 cigarillos....
Never tried e-cigs cause you just switch the name of the devil and they are even more dangerous than
normal cigs cause nobody knows about how the additives react if burned and inhaled.

You grow wings and turn into a hippo!
I strongly advise anyone to do their research regarding e-cigs if they are interested in them.

Here is a start: this is a link to one of the more active (and well known among e-cig enthusiasts): http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/

There are lots of brands, lots of models, and lots of configurations. One size does NOT fit all, and experimenting until you find something that works for you can get pretty expensive, if not dangerous (as there are a lot of opportunists/amateurs in this fledgeling industry as well).

Gather as much info that you can. That's the only advice I have to offer.

There's no tobacco in the ecig, there's nicotine, and there may be a tobacco flavoring, but it can as easily be peach of apple. Basically it's propylene glicol, glicerine, nicotine and the flavor substance.

I love smoking too, i just couldn't stand the taste of packed cigarettes and regular "roll it yourself" tobacco was getting too pricey. I switched to the ecig and it works fenomenally. The only drawback is controlling how much and when You esmoke. It's easy to break that habit of "i ate, therefore i smoke", but with me it's "i smoke all the damn time". So i just went for a lower nicotine level, so as not to rise my daily intake.

Oh yeah, nicotine - that's what I meant, not tobacco. Duh. :-) I'll definitely give them a try at some point.

Thats a desirable side effect and i would recommend e-cigs if that would be true....but research has shown that there are
real terrible things happening.....you could turn into a Scotsman and walk to the highlands!!!! with a penchant for haggis......
(there was also that horrible transforming into an chimp with love for sausages...poor dear escaped after he flung poo at his minders)
Know people that starting to get the shakes from them, all gave them up bar one person, he kept going, shakes stopped & he's still using the e-cig away. Other people have had no problems
One more thing - a few weeks after you quit, start working out more . It'll help .
