Foxhack: Wait, so people who own SF4 on PC will get an update or something? I never bought SF4 because I didn't think Capcom would release an expansion...

Edit: And as a longtime Tekken fan, I'm happy to see SF Vs Tekken on the PC too. :)

Delixe: No existing console owners of Super Street Fighter IV can upgrade to the Arcade Edition with DLC. Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition will also be a seperate release for consoles and PC.
I was talking about PC players, actually. :)

You know Capcom and their loose definition of sequels. I'm actually amazed they offered the DLC upgrade to console players. Back in the days of (Super) Street Fighter II ' Turbo champion edition it was new game or GTFO.

Yes, but those were carts. You couldn't really update a cart. :p
For whatever reason, I am very pleased about these events - even if I'm not exactly a fan of SF and can take Tekken only as a joke. I guess I'm hoping for moar fighting games. This is all GG's fault, dammit :p
I'd kill for the new Mortal Kombat on PC, but I'd settle with SSFIV also.
Hope Capcom has success with projects like this. Fighting games were a dead genre on PC for years.

I admit my ignorance and would like an explanation on why people seem to dislike GFWL. I just read the Wikipedia article, and it sounds a bit like Steam to me, and Steam has a gazillion of fanboys. (Note: apart from a general disdain for MS, which needs no explanation.)

Well, in my particular case, I hate GFWL because I can't buy anything there. Since my IP is Mexican, and my credit card is American, I can't buy stuff. And by stuff I mean things like DLC.

At least with Steam, there's an officially sanctioned workaround that requires me to log in with my browser using a special URL and buy things there instead of inside Steam. But there's nothing like that in GFWL. Remember that "Age of Empires III for a dime" thing a while back? I couldn't even pay the bleedin' dime. :(

So if they release any sort of DLC? I can't buy it. At least with Steam, I can.

Edit: However, I can't judge the service as an in-game browser or for its additional features, since I can't run any game that uses / requires it at the moment. :)

I recall being linked to a NeoGAF thread via a Giant Bomb comment, which did a good job of summarizing the main problems people have with GfWL. Let me look through my history...

Found it. One additional thing he didn't mention is that GfWL tends to encrypt the save files and not allow them to be transferred from PC to PC. Of course, this happens on a game-by-game basis, but it's still complete bollocks. There's also little to no transparancy as to what DRM any specific GfWL game will use (will it be install limits? Will it be getting locked to one Gamertag?), whereas you know exactly what expect in terms of DRM for a Steamworks game. Also, Steamworks is available worldwide (in theory, at least), GfWL is not.

Steamworks has IP-based region-locking in place so if you have an overseas copy or are travelling overseas with your purchased games it might not let you use it (banasama has detailed the woes of this in the past if I recall correctly). GfWL's region check is determined by your gamertag (as far as I understand) and if all else fails you can use an offline profile to avoid this nonsense altogether; there are a few games that forbid offline profiles or require online activation prior to use but for the vast majority of GfWL games you can install and play the offline portion without even needing to worry about entering the key.

EDIT: also, IIRC offline saves don't have this locking nonsense getting in the way (since you can't earn achievements on an offline profile--achievements are the whole reason why saves are locked down).

The problem is that AFAIK all recent GfWL games (to be specific, Dead Rising 2 and later) require an online profile. I think Microsoft's got rid of the offline profile loophole.

You can still use offline account even with games like DR2, it's just that they now have a "release date check" that forces you to be online to check for the date, but afterwards you can still use your offline account if you want to.

You can transfer offline save games from PC to PC, you just need to also move your offline account information (which contains the encryption key) from PC to PC and not just the samegames.

Thought I would chance my arm. I asked Yoshinori Ono about Marvel Vs Capcom 3 on the PC on twitter. He's not in charge of it :(. Ah well.

On a lighter note Katsuhiro Harada is actually rather happy about Tekken coming to the PC with Street Fighter X Tekken. He's a keen Counterstrike and WoW fan.
