I was never really a fan of musical numbers in movies. There are a few exceptions, like Ursula's Poor Unfortunate Souls or Christmas Present's song in the Muppet Christmas Carol, but for the most part they're a waste of time and don't really add anything to the films. Even as a child I found them really irritating and often fast-forwarded through them. Thankfully they seem to (mostly) be a thing of the past nowadays.

I actually think that pop culture references can be pretty funny and if they are not the main thing in the movie or in a scene, it's only an ekstra layer, in the silly dancing scenes there are no layers- they are not like onions- it's pure nothing and totally without meaning.
I also see why some people can't stand songs in movies, though I can actually live with them, especially if they are great. (I once had almost a full day of "A whole new world" from Aladin) On the other hand, musical is realy not my thing. Way to often I have had the feeling, that the music was getting in the way of the story and the caracters.
