tammerwhisk: Most the arguments are the "margins are too low to recoup fees" or something similar.
That sounds like a bad excuse because Steam was exactly the reason they started being fine with offering DLC at low costs, because devs didn't have to swallow the transaction fees.

I doubt with all the Steam wallet use these days that suddenly became an issue now. It's just another tactic to get you to spend more money than you'd otherwise have to.

Rakuru: Yeah, it does kind of suck that the early buyer at $60 gets stuck trying to track down DLC while the person who waits a couple years can grab the complete pack often for around $5. I mean, yes, you get to play the game earlier, but still.

And the way Steam organizes base games and complete versions and DLC and franchise packs and so on has been occasionally frustrating to deal with this sale... "I could just grab the GoTY/Elite/Complete/Special Edition version, but I guess I had better count the 20 DLC packs included and make sure that's all that's available. Or I could just grab the franchise pack and get a really good deal on the early games, but that only comes with the standard edition and I would need to grab the Complete DLC Pack also... but, wait, isn't there some DLC that's only in the Special Edition and not available any other way? Sigh." :|
One thing that I've wished Steam would allow for ages now, is the ability to add *anything* to your wishlist, not just base games and the odd DLC. The way it works now for the most part, is that if there is a super-holy-shit-ultimate-edition of something, you can only wishlist it if it is the only edition available in the store. But if there is a lesser edition of which a superlative edition includes along with other things - you can only wishlist the most basic plain edition. It's very inconsistent.

So for example if there is:

Frobnosticator
Frobnosticator Deluxe
Frobnosticator Extreme Legendary GOTY Edition

... on Steam you're most likely only able to put "Frobnosticator" on your wishlist and not the Extreme Legendary GOTY Edition. I did however find a way around that to a degree, which is to do what Steam wants/limits you to do, then import your Steam wishlist into isthereanydeal.com and then search that site for the same games and they will often list multiple editions of a game and you can independently wishlist any one or more of them on that site instead and they'll track all of it for you.

Not sure why exactly Steam does it the way they do. Might just be technical oversight, or might be some unknown reason, but it's nice to just be able to say "meh, whatever" and go do what I want via another website instead. :)
Seems better to ask this here than create a new thread for it, I was just wondering if someone could suggest to me some good relatively recent (last 3-4 years) AAA games (i.e. not indie and not old, I can get those here) to keep an eye on in the sale? Something hopefully without even more DRM layered on top of Steam. Something that can come on sale not more than $13, since that is all I have in steam credit. Also, something not multiplayer focused (my connection cannot handle that) or strategy/racing/sports (unless they're really really really really really good, because those genres don't interest me as much).

I can tell you I already own or have played Batman: Arkham Asylum & City, Bioshock Infinite, Borderlands 1 & 2, all the Civs, Dragon Age: Origins, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Dishonoured, Fallout 3 & New Vegas, Just Cause 2, Kingdom's of Amalur: Reckoning, Mass Effect 1 & 3, all 3 Max Paynes, Saints Row 3, Sleeping Dogs, Skyrim, Thief 4 (blekh) and XCOM Enemy Unknown.

I was eyeing Far Cry 3, but it has uplay, and Tomb Raider, but I hear it is irritatingly on-the-rails lead-by-the-nose, despite being good storywise and archerywise. Currently I'm eyeing Saints Row IV, but since it is a popular game, I'm sure it'll repeat the last day, so I can wait if something better is expected to come along. I was looking at Dark Souls as well, but I don't have a controller (although I could PROBABLY get one), and I'm not sure how much the multiplayer aspect of the game is prominent.

Whew...that ended up long. Maybe I should've created a separate thread? But since it is here already, any help? Thanks!

babark: ...
Dunno if they count as AAA but maybe Fallout New Vegas or Dishonored?

Also, I heard there are mods for Dark Soul that make mouse/keyboard combo playable, can't confirm that as I don't own Dark Soul but you can always google it.

I own Fallout: New Vegas already (I guess it slipped my mind because I thought it was older than 4 years), and have played Dishonoured. I should've mentioned those! I'll edit my previous post.

Well then dunno, Witcher 2? :P
Far Cry 3 is great but yea, you need uplay, it's not that bad if you can download game from steam but still it's another account.
Tomb Raider is fun but it's like you said, it also have to much combat imho. But for that price it's good deal.

I have both the Witcher 1 and 2 here on gog! And 3 is currently too pricey for me.
I remember there was this issue with uplay games that they required always online, and if your internet disconnected, it would quit the game. Was that changed? Fixed?

Tbh don't know, never had that problem, but then again, I'm online most of the time. It has offline mode so I guess it should work.

babark: *snip*
Have you played Hitman Absolution? I know a lot of people that are fans of the previous games say that it is not as good because of linearity but that is only for the initial missions and some segue ways otherwise there are very large areas in most missions where you're free to kill your target as you wish. I would really recommend it as I had a lot of fun with the game and at 80% off its a fantastic deal. The game is still a really challenging Hitman game especially at a higher difficulty with a great story IMO which was always missing in previous Hitman games.

Yeah, I did some checking out as well, it seems Ubisoft removed always online from its games. But then I also found out that it installs some rootkit stuff on your system, where one flaw was fixed, but who knows what else there might be :(.

I enjoyed the previous Hitman games (2 was my favourite) but I also heard the same bad things about Absolution. Will have to investigate it some more as well!

babark: I own both those games, amok!
I noticed :)

changed game... Of Orcs and Men is -75%. Bit short, but good fun. Recommended if you liked CoA: Reckoning and DA2.

I'm reading a lot of negative comments about the combat. How bad is it?

not that bad. It is fun, but it is not going to set the world on fire.. The worst criticism, i guess, is for its length - about 12 hours game-play. Some complain that it is to short for an ARPG. it is also a bit linear, but it is because it is a bit story heavy. However it tries to do an original story.

I also guess the complaints about the combat is that it is actually quite tactical and slow, not so fast and intuitive as with normal ARPG, I have seen it descried as an tactical RPG. It is slow, and it can be a bit grating at times, but it is also challenging and gets bonus points for trying to be its own type of game.

New Steam dailies, flashes, and community choices just went up.

Syberia (1+2) Bundle - $1.49
Blackwell (1+2+3+4) Bundle - $1.99
Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons - $2.99

Also Torchlight 2 ($4.99), Splider Cell Blacklist ($7.49), and Metro Last Light Complete ($6.79).

And more obviously, but that's the cheap(ish) stuff that popped out at me. :)
