Was about to buy , then I watched this.

Now I am a bit tempted by Culpa Innata but, surfing the web, I've read contradictory reviews. Can someone tell me anything about it?

I first heard of it a few months back, when the topic of risque games came about on GOG, possibly in the ninja thread. I don't think the game itself was deemed risque, but it did come about. I too am considering it, but the sale is a rather poignant illustration of all the great things you can get for those same 2 bucks. Tough choice.

I'm similarly considering ORB. Anyone have any strong feelings about that one?

Culpa Innata is a must-buy for anyone who likes investigative gameplay in an original, detailed, well-executed dystopian near-future setting.

The graphics are dated and the interface is clunky, but the setting and gameplay are thought-provoking in a way that very very few games achieve.

I wrote a more detailed review here (scroll down to read it) if you want more information.

That is a compelling argument, indeed. Thank you. I won't rush it, but I'll probably pick it up by sale's end :-)

Thank you guys, +1 to both of you by me.

Psyringe, you surely got my attention writing words like "investigative gameplay" and "original, detailed, well-executed setting". I think I'll grab it, even though I am almost sure we will see it in some bundle sooner or later. My greates fear was this review, since I usually agree with IGN. I still shiver when thinking about the terrible Mata Hari.

Spinorial, sorry but I can't help you back about ORB: I am not into strategic games. Feel free to suggest some other games in the two-bucks' range. I don't think I will spend more than that, even though I am looking at price changes of "Brothers in Arms" games.
Okay guys, I'll try running two games at once so that I can idle for cards.

Hopefully I'll get some card drops when I get back home.

Hmm. I played Mata Hari and wasn't too thrilled by that game either. I don't regret buying it, but in my opinion "Mata Hari" has "missed opportunity" written all over it. The devs chose a fascinating historical period for that game and then ... didn't actually use it for anything. The game's story is extremely generic and rather bland, imho.

"Culpa Innata", on the other hand, does exactly what I missed in Mata Hari - its setting is fleshed out with a ton of details and background information, and it permeates the game. For someone like me, who likes philosophical "What if?" scenarios and who appreciates attention to detail a lot, "Culpa Innata" was a rare treat.

I read the IGN review you linked to. I think I can see where the reviewer is coming from, and I don't think that "Culpa Innata" is a game for everybody. But on the other hand, that review is on the same level as reading Orwell's "1984" and then dismissing it with statements like "People would never live under such an oppressive government, people always strive for freedom, this book is completely unrealistic and the writing isn't witty enough to make up for it." The reviewer wasn't open to the game's premise because it disagrees with his idea of how humans "are", and apparently he then wasn't able to see what the game has to offer for people who approach the game more open-minded.

Just a heads-up, Steam (as most other places) has the censored US version. Haven't played it myself, so don't know the differences firsthand, but I've read (here in particular) they include some deleted scenes which add depth and subtitles to all of the comments in the game.

As far as I know, the only place selling the Euro/Uncut (non-physical) version is still the AdventureShop. The price difference probably isn't worth it, but thought I'd point it out anyway.

Tell us your finding then.
Just stumbled over a nice game for anime fans like me:

Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae - 2.49€

Only if you enjoy repetitive melee battles against exactly the same enemies again and again and again ... ;)

If you consider spending 2.50€ on this game, I'd recommend watching TotalBiscuit's WTF first.

Actually that was me just tagging a similar question, to the general readership. Don't sweat it :-)

So, again, anyone have any strong feelings, good or bad, about ORB?

Drat, I'll have to do my research on possibly patching/modding it. Scant info so far, though.
