Steam support IS very bad though.
Gamers like steam because it is a hassle free DRM that provides useful SERVICES to the users, not just hindrances. A very good aggregator, useful matchmaking, extreme ease to organize multiplayer matches, and now a whole lot of social networking crap that is extraneous, as well as synchronizing saves between multiple machines (VERY useful) as well as, and most importantly, HAVING CHEAP AS DIRT titles.
I've had nothing but good experiences with steam, as well as Origin, but GFWL leaves a bad taste in my mouth due to it being finicky and annoying to deal with (much more so than steam), and being a total pain in the ass when it comes to download dlc and saves. I was lucky not to have batman/fallout 3 saves eaten by GFWL, but I did spend like 2 hours trying to get the DLC for Section 8 (then again I spent more time getting that DLC than actually playing it!).
The only thing I've had not working with steam has been the offline mode, and that only if I try to activate it after closing steam incorrectly and not having a connection. Otherwise, it works very well.
Beets and onions are goddamn awesome, what are you on about. *chomps on a raw onion*
