Does that happen often? I remembered when Future Soldier came out, it was $60US, my stores sold slightly cheaper than that. I hope it doesn't happen for all the games.

Snickersnack: I finished FarCry3 a few days ago and uninstalled it. When I launch Uplay and hit the 'games' tab it presents me with a button to download FC3. Pressing it appears to start a download process but I didn't bother to redownload the whole thing. I'd be happy to try a full reinstall if that would be useful.

My FC3 was purchased through the Ubi store (used a coupon actually). My copy of HoMMVI however, does not allow redownloading from the Uplay client (HoMMVI is a Uplay game). I believe this is because I purchased HoMMVI through Steam. I can redownload HoMMVI through Steam.

Novotnus: Steam is not retarded - it's clever and respectable buisness, just not one I want to use if I have an alternative that suits me more.

Fictionvision: I know it does for consoles. PC releases I haven't checked in store in a long time. In Europe I hear it is fairly common for new releases to be a good deal cheaper in stores than through digital.

Fictionvision: Every online retailer I checked out of curiosity only sold steam keys for the game after release. The game still requires GFWL too with steam. The only option to have the game is through steam unless you get an EU retail edition.

If there is a place that sold it only requiring GFWL it hasn't come up in the few times the game has been mentioned on this forum.

F4LL0UT: Dude, there's LOTS of reasons to hate Steam. They've developed into the same kind of evil empire as Apple has over the years. Their terms of use are pure evil, their VAC has banned innocent users, their moderators on the forums are assholes who ban people at will and if bad stuff happens to you there's a good chance that nobody's gonna help you (like that guy who lost access to his account for gifting too much, didn't get any explanation or help from the support and only got it back after some journalists wrote about his experience). Then there's unfair regional pricing, regional availability and extreme censorship for users located in some countries (such as Germany - my buddy paid more money just to get the uncut PEGI version from the UK, played the uncensored version for a few days or so and suddenly had the censored version after an automatic update).

So yeah, there is really a lot of reasons to hate Steam.

For Dark Souls are you certain of that?

I saw the retail package, there is a Steam Icon, but I am sure that it is optional. You can choose not to use Steam.

In fact, I even downloaded the torrent just to try it out. (I deleted after trying, of course.) I am certain that the game does not require Steam. It does use Securom, if my memory serves.

Fictionvision: The only retail release was EU one AFAIK. Maybe it got released elsewhere too, but if its using the same game version, it wouldn't need Steam. There was a thread here a while back where someone managed to get the game to install and almost start up without an internet connection. I'd assume the torrented version you got was based off it. They added later on the option to put the keys into steam to get the game there from the retail edition if people wanted so.

F4LL0UT: I have no problem with people not hating Steam and I'm not a Steam hater myself (although I find some of its aspects and possible scenarios rather uncanny). My problem was only that you said that there's "no reason to hate Steam" - sure, you can speak for yourself but for some people there's obviously reasons to hate it. And the "respectable business" thing is in my opinion highly arguable. In my eyes a respectable business shouldn't deny its clients the ability to file a class action lawsuit nor should its terms of use eliminate any responsibility to provide an explanation or reason when denying its clients access to services they paid for - even if this "no explanation, no reason" thing is just common practice when defining terms of use, Steam is actually frequently making use of this stuff and that does not seem very "respectable" to me.

It's Christmas, and I finally decided that I will get for myself Mass Effect 3, nevermind the fact that it is using Origin, which happened to be one of the apps that I hate the most.

So I put enough money in my paypal account, and happily decided to check out the items.

What happened next is that I struggled for half an hour, trying to find the stupid paypal option for payment.

After many Google searches for this issue, I finally realized what the freaking problem was. Origin Store uses a separate store/website for each and every region. In my case, they actually forgot to implement this payment option in the store for my region. US users can use paypal, but not me.

And to make matters worse, I can't change the bloody region or the bloody language. They lock it in, I can't even change what region I want to purchase from.


They should just shut down the bloody site and fire all their top management. They have no idea how to run a business.
