Steam is not retarded - it's clever and respectable buisness, just not one I want to use if I have an alternative that suits me more.
No reason to hate it.

I'm sure it'll seem that way in 90 minutes when the Holiday sale kicks off, performance hasn't been great for everyone in past sales ^^

Anyways, I think GoG and Steam compliment each other very well - but thats where I draw the line, no Origin etc no söör :)

About binding games to one account only - well, with the games costing as little as they do and all the humble bundles and such, I really dont see problem. Well, the there is the "Bad Rats" -dilemma Total Biscuit mention ofcourse and I agree - but even that is easy to solve by making one folder for the stuff you dont want to see..

...And ofcourse, its pretty likely they may add game selling/exchanging or whatever ability in the future. Who knows - all I know my gaming hobby is waaaay easier these days compared to time I moved from Amiga to PC -world....

Both GOG and Steam has their problems, i once tried to get a refund for Assassin's Creed because it wasn't DRM-Free.

According to my book, both stores are doing something good for the PC gaming and i'm still willing to open wallet for both stores.

Then how about you direct that HATE towards the developers that chose steam as there platform. Sorry valve created steam as a service...they do not force any company to sign up with them...it is not like they are the mafia. Secondly...I seriously doubt there will even be hard copy games in the near future...they have been slowly phasing out for the last year or two now. Tis sad although I have no problems with digital gaming except they kept the exact same (or in some cases more expensive) price range as physical boxes which never made sense=)

Its funny really - I mean we have a whole lot of more options these days than ever before. Computers and games are cheaper, work without DOS-doctoring and so on. ...And then people complain as if it was the end of the world.

Oh well, might be tomorrow - better not waste breath ;)

They don't, but they have plenty of people that yell "NO STEAM NO BUY!" that ends up forcing devs to include Steam.

Like Dark Souls. Originally the game only used GFWL, after enough people complained for steam on the internet it ended up requiring steam too. The retail version was still just GFWL, however that was only sold in Europe.

I certainly have. I started using Steam several years before I got broadband so it was important for me to be able to play offline. Well, it worked most of the time but still Steam would often refuse to run the offline mode without logging in first - and many of these logins lead to automatic updates which had to be finished before I could play my games offline again - so the offline mode was a bad joke.

It may have improved since then (I don't know since I'm basically online all the time since I got broadband a couple of years back) but complaints similar to what I experienced ages ago still pop up on forums occasionally so I guess the problem is still present for many people.

Digital copies more expensive than Retail copies? 0_o

Does that happen often? I remembered when Future Soldier came out, it was $60US, my stores sold slightly cheaper than that. I hope it doesn't happen for all the games.

Vote with your wallet, my friend! Bethesda is not geting my money for Fallout: New Vegas as logn as they keep it Steam exclusive. Certainly there is a sacrifice on my end (I can't play the game), but they won't sell another copy which they can sell if they put it on GOG or non-Steam DVD.
I don't hate Steam nor Bethesda - I just don't want to be forced to use Steam and I have plenty other games I can play the way it suits me (that is: offlline and\or DRM-free)

Dark Souls is good. You see, for Dark Souls, the Steam client is optional, not forced.

Though, you will use GFWL like it or not, and I really can't say I like it more than Steam.
