escapedturkey: Seems unethical for one company's forum to allow the bashing of another. Each company has its strengths and weaknesses. Competition keeps the price down and the quality up.

Firstly, Steam allow the bashing of other services and the praising of Steam. Yet they delete posts that make other services look better than Steam.
Secondly, take a look at the gaming deals thread. GOG allow both the promotion and bashing of other services (so long as it's not spam). It's not so much that it's allowed, more that this is a pretty uncensored forum.

I think our overlords at GOG let us do this because they know we're a "quality" community, mature enough to know where to get the best deals from (best doesn't always mean cheapest either). GOG have little to fear as they have a far better quality end product in my opinion.
I certainly won't be buying games available here with additional materials from Steam or any other service. Even if the other service did have the cheaper price. I've even rebought games original bought on Steam from here just so I can have the additional materials and the freedom from the Steam client.

I think in future i'm just gonna ignore all random steam bashing and just automatically downvote it. It's basically trolling... gah. so hard to resist responding.
So i'll just say, no store ever has the cheapest prices for all it's products. Enough searching around and you can find most things cheaper in the end.

Sorry, I should have said North America.
Not too sure what the pricing in South America is like.

I think it's the same, given that they pay USD as well.

Understandable. In fact, I've repurchased a couple of retail versions here. Usually either because of the extra content (expansions, mostly) or compatibility issues. Or both. The bottom line is that GOG offers the closest thing to a guarantee of hassle-free gaming there is.
Wow, I lost rep for saying GOG is better than steam.

Poor Weclock, always losing rep after saying something.

CaptainGyro: Yeah I know paying an average of about $5-$6 for each game I have purchased is ridiculously overpriced. I understand that you may have spent more on each game than I have, but wouldn;t that make you the overspending idiot?.

Weclock: last game I got was $2.50 on there.

. I don't know how that changes anything about what I said, but ok
I've never really been too sure about Steam. I do use it, though, but only to get Valve games.

If you could get Valve games without Steam, would you avoid Steam completely?
One of the things I have an issue with about Steam is that it acts as a service for gaming, a digital distribution service and as DRM. Three things in one!
I don't want the service, I don't use their store, and I don't like DRM. So I choose to avoid Steam where I can, but this is occasionally impossible if you want to play certain games.

Totally agree, which is why I've stopped using it and abandoned games I bought on it.
Luckily, I've picked up games I had on it dirt cheap.
My biggest gripe is that the client is too controlling. With Sins of a Solar Empire, I can install the Impulse client, use it to install Sins, exit and never need to use it again (until maybe for an update). With Steam, you need to use it every single time you play a game (whether in offline mode or not).
Impulse is a good example of a client-based service, but unless they start having cheaper games or open up certain games to my region, I'm not going to use it again.
Direct2Drive and EA's store are good examples of non client based services. D2D has a downloader you may or may not use to download your games. EA's downloader is mandatory to download, but since I recently did a PC reinstall I was fine installing my EA games without it installed.
Simple, client-less game purchasing is all I personally want.
Edit:
Also, bear in mind Steam specifically does not allow you to transfer games to other people, whereas EA's terms state "You may make a one time permanent transfer to all your rights to install and use the Software to another individual...provided that...the Technical Protection Measures used by the Software supports such transfers"

South America is a big part of the continent, 13 countries, not 1.
In Brazil, the problem is the access to a credit card, which is costly to get sometimes. We pay from a conversion of USD to BRL (currency is called Real). At least we don't pay VAT over the price, but the banks are hungry with other taxes alike, even higher than VAT.

Why not use a Paypal account linked to your bank account? Would you still have to pay some sort of transaction fee?
So you actually pay what the USD would convert to? Not like the Europeans?
