Today, 4PM Pacific Time (6PM Central Time), Giant Bomb will be holding its' regularly scheduled Thursday Night Throwdown, where they play against the community and broadcast it through Justin.tv. However, this time around they're throwing a bonus in there; if you're watching, you'll have the chance to win one of two copies of StarCraft II. Don't worry if you're in another country; in the past, Whiskey Media has always shipped internationally for any prizes won.

Watch out GOGgers in the words of admiral akbar "IT'S A TRAP!!!"
(being the game has one of the most heineous forms of DRM which is the sort of reason you turned to GOG in the first place)

Oh, don't be silly. A single activation is necessary and you can play the campaign offline.
Then again - the game is mainly focused on competitive online multiplayer, so the fact that you need to log in to battle.net doesn't seem unreasonable.

I was wondering when someone on this forum declare Battle.net 2 PURE EEEEEEEVIL and put it on the same pedistal as Steam.

Online activation every 30 days is one of the most heinous forms of DRM? Well, guess I'm fine with all DRM then, because SC2's doesn't bother me one bit.
Good to know.
Note to everyone who doesn't have SC2: It's awesome, get it.

Actually, I turned to GoG because I wanted to try Die by the Sword. Fun game.
Yes i would liken battlent to steam.
It does what the third party application hamachi does for no reason other than to maintain control for the company, it is not there because t he consumer desired it nor to enhance the game.
In addition to this no doubt once everyone is okay with there being no lan on an inherently lan based game like it's and the diablo series subscription services for an unnecessary component shall swiftly follow.
Do either a google or a wikipedia search for the slippery slope i'm sure you'll turn up something to keep an eye on.

LAN is the silliest thing I've seen people complain about. Most of the people who are complaining just want it there because the first one had it, but honestly, how many of you would be able to use LAN practically in this day and age? Most college friends are probably scattered all over the US of A by now, and the friends that are around may or may not be fans of the series.
If people want to play StarCraft LAN games, then they can whip out the original and have fun times with that.

A Google search will result in nothing more than 99% alarmist claptrap from people who don't actually know what they're talking about, and treat opinions as facts.

The slippery slope argument is a logical fallacy.
Also, SC isn't "inherently LAN based".

You DO realize that new human beings are born every single day, right? So there are still people in colleges and the like around the world.
Don't get me wrong, I think the lan thing is whining too. But your rationale is pretty shortsighted.
Lan is important for me in practically every strategy game and hack'n slash rpg. Me and a friend are constantly searching for fun games in those genres to play coop in. :)
Wait. People that doesn't think lan is important have no real life gaming friends?
;)

Yes, but did those people grow up playing the original StarCraft? No they did not. How can they miss something that they never experienced in the first place? They'll likely be happy playing another game LAN if they want to.
Who goes to a LAN party without Internet connection?

yes and guess what unlike some people who may take more shortsighted veiws i actually have real friends that yes i can gather and do in fact gather as often as every 2nd week for a LAN party. The fact of the matter is in australia until the 10 years for a rollout of optical cable places places like my home which happens to be that touch too far from the exchange will have to suffer from people like you in their ignorance undermining the gaming community. Everone got a stable connection oh look you're pings causing you to time out on us again billy, looks like you're gonna have to sit this one out or come over and that's right LAN.
You're argument that people shouldn't complain because of a personal veiw that they don't exist with reason or cause is both ignorant, childish and without merit.
