Has anyone else seen this? It's basically the spiritual successor to freelancer and wing commander and it looks awesome.

Anyway, Im really hyped for this, can't wait to play. I guess in the mean time I have still have freelancer.

I'm not a big fan of the MMO aspect.

The multiplayer is optional and you can make a private server if you don't want it to be 'massive'

it's pretty much like how Freelancer's multiplayer was, just on a bigger scale.

yea same not interested in mmo stuff, they way the are going they wont be much different from eve online , only you get to play fps with it. i want single player all the games they are using to hype this game had masterpiece of a single player gameplay.

No, this is completely different than eve online. This is a space simulator, not an rpg. and it doesn't have any fps element. Did you see the links I posted?

I like the description of the space flight implementation. Having proper physics while not forcing the player to make all the necessary thruster adjustments makes a lot of sense, since as he says we already have present-day aircraft that do this automatically. The description of being able to lose a part and have the controls crippled sounds great.The intro video says there is a military campaign route to earn citizenship (hence the name), so presumably that has a mission structure resembling a single player game.

I'm not sold on the MMO aspect; hopefully running it as an offline/private server thing won't make it feel like it's missing something. I'm certainly willing to give it a chance, either way, since it's not like there are any traditional single player space sims on the horizon anyway. :(

yeah actually I'm a littler worried about the physics. Very few games have been able to implement newtonian physics and still have it be a fun space sim. The problem is that when dog fighting 1:1 whith newtonian physics the ship that can turn the fastest almost always wins and the fight becomes less about pilot skill. I do remember an old game called independence war that somehow pulled it off, so I do think that by the time this game exists alpha they would have worked out the kinks

I think it's because when most people think MMO they think WoW and TOR and the like, which in my opinion are some of the most boring games of all time.

yea i will probably give it a try, but the amount of the time they are saying they will need plus the costly amount, it will be long time before we get our hands on it, and i really some other developers wont look into this market after seeing the hype just the news bought, i am counting on money whores like ea and ubisoft to come with games in between, so there is a chance space may be our new gaming zone

For me its because I just want to play a nice storyline like Wing Commander 2, but it's hard to create a storyline like that in an MMO context - I want to be the sole hero, I don't want thousands of other heroes to be around as well.

Space sims would play very well on consoles (he was doing his demo with a 360 controller, after all). A shiny new space flight game based on Star Wars or Mass Effect or whatever would sell very well based on the name alone, but big-name publishers won't touch the genre due to the absence of projected profits; spaceship games don't exist, so there's no way of knowing if they will sell well enough to risk doing, so they don't exist, so...

I could see space flight creeping in next generation as a new gimmick to take advantage of the performance leap. Mass Effect 3 added multiplayer, so maybe Mass Effect 4 would add space flight as a side mission thing. This is seen as a safe bet, since a mode that ends up being hated won't detract from a game's overall success.

I can see a million ways this will go wrong. A million. But if there is one way it can go right, then I am in. This is one of those dreams.
