Profanity: Well, GoG downloader isn't mandatory, it's optional. So why even put that kind of a check on it, when everyone download the .exe just as freely.
avatar
Foxhack: For the same reason you can't download the game from GOG.com via a browser without being logged into your account.

There's no DRM in the games. No online activations, no ownership checks in the installers. That doesn't mean you can download it without being logged into the site first in order to make sure you are allowed to download the game.
I was logged in to my friends account . So if what you say is correct how do you explain the popup ?

That makes no difference in this situation .. as far as the system knows I am him , I was logged in as him so thats irrelevant .

No idea. It might have been some weird cookie glitch. It happens.

Please tell me this is a silly trolling attempt, and that you are not actually this stupid.

The logged in the browser part was kind of implied... Though I see your point.

oh, if you wanted the answer to your problem, you probably just need to use CCleaner found here:
http://www.piriform.com/
It will quite probably take care of your problem. However, I do not personally believe it to be okay to share games with a friend...I guess I could see sharing it with a son or wife or something, you know, same household....But, if everyone shared their GOG's freely with their buddys, well, GOG would have a much harder time staying afloat. Now I don't mean to say that I think you don't mean well, that you don't intend to buy these games, but, others, are not like that at all, I can assure you. I mean no offense so, please take none, I just wouldn't feel comfortable doing what you are doing myself, that is all.

No harm done, got no problem with people pointing out my mistakes.

Though if OP will try to argue with Wishbone, that won't end pleasantly.

Purchasing game at gog you purchase it for your own use, not for giving your friends even just to try.

No offense taken and as I already stated I always buy my own copys of games , hell I even own physical copies of most of my gog games , this is the first time I have tried this and even then it was friends suggestion as he is very thoughtful like that .

anyway I used ccleaner and it didn't stop the pop up , the pop up only stopped when I logged into the gog Downloader as my friend too.

Ok fair enough , so I'd be better buy a boxed copy of the Witcher 2 and passing it on to all my friends when I have finished with it yes ?

and just too add that also means that gog is not then truly what it says it is ? I understand in my stupid brain as Wishbone so kindly pointed out to me that if some says you buy it you keep it you own it , that means I can basically do what the fuck I like with it .

I suppose your friend is still playing W2. So, first, in legal terms he should stop playing W2 to let you play it. Second:
9. Can I install one game both on my laptop and desktop PC at home?
Yes. We do not limit the number of installations or reinstallations, as long as you install your purchased games on PCs in your household. So yeah, if you've got a render-farm in the basement, you might actually break the world record for the number of legal Fallout installations in one household. However, if you think about installing your game on a friend's PC or sharing it with others then please don't do it, okay?

huh, I was sure that would fix it. Very odd. Well, I am vexed. Still CCleaner is a nice tool to help keep your PC running smoother, I'd reccommend you use it from time to time for that purpose if you wish. And, you can share it with your buddy too. ;-p

So go and buy it and lend it and then wait for return to play it yourself.
