xa_chan: Tried the 3DS in a electronics shop here in Japan. It's visually interesting but I wonder what the use of the 3D, other than cosmetic. I mean, Street Fighter in 3D is still Street Fighter, there is no gameplay change. So I'm not paying 25.000 yens for remakes.
Exactly. 3D in every electronics sector is an attempt to layer on a new wow factor... movies, games, whatever... but in the long run, even most material-obsessed monkey brained consumer can tell a fad from a feature.
That's why I'm not wasting money on a 3D HDTV. Are they gonna re-release The Social Network or The King's Speech in 3D? And if they did, wouldn't that just be the worst idea possible for those, and the majority of movies.
In the gaming world, 3D might have more of a home, but ultimately it adds nothing you need to improve gaming, so it should just be a footnote.
The 3DS might present 3D very well, but I can't muster up any energy to care because, I'm not 12, I don't want to rescue the Princess, and it's a hand held, which just isn't my style at all. But the 3D part is something I'm not gonna add to my gaming PC, my home entertainment center, or any other element of my life...
...except for reality, which is already in native 3D.
