Red_Avatar: the article says SQUAT except that it's coming to Steam and yet no-one has so far explained to me why they couldn't simply wait for the game to appear on Steam and THEN make a news post since they don't even have a date of release!
It's news. By the time it hits Steam, Steam will be telling us all about it. "Real" News has always trended towards making itself known as fast as it can be communicated, rather than sat upon until it was deemed convenient.

On the contrary, if they'd sat on the news, kept it secret and waited until it was out to post about it, any article they put up would be little more than a press release, which is exactly the sort of thing that a lot of so-called "news" sites are being criticized for at the moment.

I think that you should take a time-out and seriously examine your own motives for seeing bias here. A gaming website rushing to be first with a scoop doesn't seem to quite fit that definition.
RPS is strongly biased towards Steam but I don't think that article is a good example of that. Read any article mentioning Origin/EA, Blizzard/Diablo 3, or Ubisoft for a better reference. I think they would probably start badmouthing GOG like they do with the other 3 if they could get away with it without losing credibility.

Red_Avatar: *facepalms even more*

Dear lord, I really expected more of this forum.
Your thread might have gone better if we didn't already have threads complaining about Steam and things that like Steam every couple of weeks.
I don't read RPS, so I can't comment one way or the other about their Steam fanboi-ness. But I've seen many complaints/observations that they're fairly Steam-biased. Whether or not it's a true bias, I don't know, but one thing to consider is that Steam is used by millions of PC gamers, so likely a huge portion of their reader base are also Steam users. It seems only natural to provide some sort of 'news' that would interest that huge reader base.

Red_Avatar: it was a vent, as in, not ment to be a huge deal, that article was just one more example of a non-news item involving Steam and it ticked me off on a bad day.
Yeah I get it now, venting's a good thing. Don't be so serious next time and I'm sure we'll hop onto the pointless bashtrain :-P Until then, loads of gogers are going to haunt your dreams. HAUNT YOUR DREAMS I SAY!

A good example of said bias would be this one:

Steam does everything the article whines about, and yet there is not a mention of it, save for in the comments.

One of several reasons why, much like PC Gamer UK, I stopped reading RPS.

That article is hilarious. I doesn't even make it past five sentences before complaining about something Steam gets a free pass for.

It reminds me of a post I read on another forum about a month ago. Someone claimed anyone that says they are a PC gamer and doesn't have an active Steam account is "suspicious". Yes because the only way to get games without steam is through piracy. Or maybe because it's wrong to not have a cut of every sale go back to Valve. Whats the point of an open platform if everything is tied to a single digital content provider.

Regarding the OP, I've generally stopped caring about "mainstream" gaming news sites as they are generally some kind of circle jerk for one company or another. Be it Valve, Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, ect.

Red_Avatar: Snip
I stopped reading Rock Paper Steam fanboy months ago because of their ever more obvious Steam bias.

Even worse is when EA or Ubisoft titles have minor hiccups that prevent play for a short time. RPS run a long string of articles on how evil they are. Same happens on Steam and they just brush off it as something that happens.

Not surprising mind, given they have Steam press accounts. Why bite the hand that gives them free games? Which reminds me of the couple of articles they posted a long while back bitching about not getting beta access/review copies of certain games. Fucking pathetic.
