RIP Ralph Baer. He deserved to get a lot of the credit and recognition that went to Nolan Bushnell instead.

amok: Just in case there is anyone out there who do not know who Ralph Baer was (shame on you), this is a good short video about him:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vBZmzLXBK8&feature=youtu.be
Thanks, he seems to have been a really good guy.
A sad loss, he will be missed.
Heh, I didn't know that he invented "Simon". I only knew that pong was originally his design and it was plagiarzied by Atari. Will have to read up on this guy's work.
Just saw this interview from 2009, when Motherboard visited Baer at his home:

Meet Ralph Baer, the Father of Video Games
RIP to a great pioneer of the video game world. You brought millions of people much joy, Mr Baer
I was just wondering, has he won any Nobel Prize awards? If he hasn't he definitely deserves one. If they don't have a category for the work he's done, they should make a new one. Ralph Baer was a true legend and inventor and may he R.I.P.

And both get a lot of the credit that William higinbothem deserves for creating the first video game.

Thats debatable... Tennis for Two was made in 1958, but you have games like Bertie the Brain from 1951, NIM or Strachey's Draughts from 1950.

Depending on how you define video game, arguable the first one is Cathode ray tube amusement device (snappy name) from 1948.
Rest in peace, Mr. Baer.

Thanks for the link

He was way ahead of his time, but he also made me pull my hair out with that Simon game.

Cavenagh:
Loved to see the tinkerer in him so present, the excitement in trying to figure out how you could make things work.
I knew he was old but this is still unexpected news. What a great person and without people like him we'd not be sitting in this forum and talking about games!

He did get this thing. That should cut it.
