imdwalrus: I can kind of see where the outrage of "I GOT RIPPED OFF" is coming from, but so far no one has been able to convince me it makes any sense.

JMich: You have a friend who has a car dealership. So far, he was selling second-hand cars only, but he currently decides to expand on the new car market, going for the new, hip hybrid cars. He strikes some deals with a few companies that he is allowed to sell their new models, and does a bit of publicity about it: "On sale, the 1st of January, the new, energy-efficient Mushroom vehicle, order now and you get 10% off the price". Then, on January first, the company that produces Mushroom decides that it is going to sell the Mushroom for 10% of the normal price itself, while your friend still has to honor the contract of selling it for 100%. Also, the company producing the Mushroom decides to throw in leather seats, a bike and a couple of concert tickets with every purchase.
Would you consider that a dick move or not?
No, because at no point in your hypothetical scenario were you promised to be the only one who sold the hybrid car. The nice thing about capitalism is that you're free to sell your products wherever you want, and do whatever you want with pricing.

(You're also ignoring the fact that GOG gives you plenty of extras with Botanicula that DON'T come with the HIB version.)

It's a classy post, but it seems that it's been edited by a moderator or somesuch. I wonder if it was even classier before.

Slimcea: Well, I just don't agree that there's any difference between this situation and the Witcher 2 backups.

If you pre-ordered Botanicula, you still have it. No one took a copy away from you. Same thing with Witcher 2. And you paid to support GOG.

Buy it from Humble at a cheaper price and get the soundtrack and a couple of other games as well? Likewise for Witcher 2 - buy it elsewhere e.g. Steam and get it possibly at a cheaper price with more community features / achievements and an extra DRM-free backup courtesy of GoG as well! Otherwise buy it off GOG and lose out some stuff to support them.

So if you guys didn't rage over that, don't see why anyone should rage over this.
They didn't give The Witcher 2 GOG backup on the day of release that is the MASSIVE differerence.

me too. I hope we aren't spreading a negative image of the GOG community this way. I have always thought this community as being mature and intelligent. I wouldn't say that's the signal you get when visiting Amanita forums now though. GOG.com being the top contributor at HumbleBundle on the other hand was a surprising and very good move though, IMO. :)

And Gog pretty much offered the best deal for half a year at least.

This.

QC: I think that would only work if GOG had an exclusivity deal, otherwise they can't really call the dev at fault.

Navagon: You're confusing legally in the clear with morally right. Just because you're not going to get fined or jailed does not make everything you do okay.
The point is it happened. I don't doubt that it's in bad taste, but it's something that happens. GOG will deal with the issue however they see fit and the gamers outraged can avoid the bundle or take it. I'll still take the game here over the humble bumbles for convenience sake. As for everyone else, we'll see what GOG plans to do tommorrow and watch to see how big the backlash is going to be on the rest of the web.

CowboyBebop: I don't think Amanita has anything to do with it either and whatever they decide is likely to be paid for only by GOG. GOG is just going to try to give something to the people who preordered here only to feel like they overpaid on release day. It might have been worth $10 but some would still feel cheated. I'm just going to buy more games from GOG this weekend than I might have before this fiasco started :)
It's not that I feel cheated. It's that this is a massive and unmistakable slap in the face all the same. The GOG price seemed fair for what it is. I knew it was likely to wind up in a bundle at some point. So it would all have been well and good. But to bung it in a bundle on the same damn day is just shitty.
Roman this was totally uncalled for! I understand the concern but there's no need to insult people about it, even less so leaving your crap on the amanita forums.
If you pre-ordered the game you had the intent to support the developer that's really what matters, here they propose to pay what you want and support Charity.
lol i hope gog does not actually listen to this idea , just removing a game like that will cause bad impressions on other devs wanting to release games here.

not just the same day from what I can work out it may have released on the bundle first (by a couple of minutes but still first...)

If they were upfront about it then that would have been all well and good. I'd have paid the same and enjoyed the game. But this is plainly duplicitous.

I reckon they were aiming to release it at exactly the same time. This is one of the first bundles I've seen not to have any prior publicity. Now that it's out, it's not hard to see why.

Furthermore this does not reflect well on Humble. Surely the thought must have crossed their mind?

Personally, I'm curious to see what will happen to Amanita in the long run. They've soured their relationship with GOG for sure, and the GamersGate folks can't be happy about this either. It seems to me like they just don't give a shit about any other DD services anymore, they're putting their eggs in the HB/Steam basket and giving everybody else the finger.

But beyond that, why are they offering a bundle on the release date? Not only does it piss off everybody who preordered from any site, but nobody is ever going to want to pay more than $5 for the game ever again no matter how good it is. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

adambiser: I don't see it on the front page now.
Mine too.
