Can I register at Steam the games I bought via GOG? How about the Steam achievements? Will they also work for GOG games?

No and No.

Unlike the Humble Store, GOG offers only DRM free versions of the games.

Also, GOG does not offer achievements.

Actually, Divinity II offers achievements. Offline achievements, but still achievements nonetheless.

Even then, those achievements are offered by the game, not by GOG.

As all achievements should be.

How can people buy things online without checking out the site thoroughly first? It makes no goddamn sense to me. Like the idiot that bought Alan Wake here and threw a bitch-fit when it wasn't a Steam code.

While I was against him back then too, I now regret this decision.

GOG was the only place on the internet where Alan Wake could not be activated on Steam and it was the first time GOG had a new game that previously was Steam exclusive.

Every other store has Steamkeys for Steamworks games.

And by asking on the forums the OP in this case did inquire the proper way, imo. Whoever downrepped him is a complete douche.

Oh yes, the OP of this thread asked a perfectly reasonable question.

The guy who bought Alan Wake on the other hand didn't bother to do any research before buying the game. You can't assume what applies to some places applies to others and should research the specific version you plan to buy and the place you plan to buy it from.

What applies to some places? It applied to all places. Should you asked at a pizza place that only served low carb burgers if the burgers come with a bun? This was a game that needed Steam at any store where you could buy it.

Especially as DRM is a relative term and Steam clearly states it is not a DRM I would say (now in retrospective, I had a different opinion back then) that the information on the store page was easily misinterpreted.


But I don't think there is any game that needs GOG or GG to run?
