Delixe: Even if that's true and this was just some mix-up and even if they start adding this missing expacs you will still see the same level of hatred for EA. There are people on this forum who would prefer it if EA took all their games and just left becuse they think EA is somehow 'infecting' GOG.
i pretty much have my load of hate for EA, but oh by did relation shift in the last few years through activision, bobby kotick, and so much stuff thats basically killing gaming as a nice hobby

i have problems buying stuff from some publishers, even if i really really want the game, there are publishers where i wont ever buy it before the price is significantly low, but in times like this, EA is far away from being one of the big bads

also wing commander
Well, regardless this funny and awkward situation, it appears that expansion packs to ALL EA GAMES will be added? And probably for FREE for people who already own the game?

And all of this can be true. In big companies like EA, chain of information is so long, that it's often deformed on the way.

I hope "we are working on it" means "we need to send master discs to GOG" and nothing more :)

It will be great when it comes true.

It is nice, does there is a tiny light about the whole EA and no Goodies / Expansion issues.
But on the other side i somehow feel sad because overall after 3 Months there still wasn't any real official statement about the issue from GOG. Only some scattered hints/posts buried in various threads.

There has been two different coalitions in the forum..
The one side complains and criticizes about the lack of Goodies/expansions.
The other doesn't see any problem at all or even criticizes the people who see a problem.

IF EA didn't even knew about the "issue" there is/was much going wrong.

So i beg for a better information policy from the side of GOG. And maybe think about how GOG could optimize their way of receiving and handling customer requests/critics.

And some people (yes i mean those: "oh noo.. not AGAIN" "stfu or EA will be scared" and "be happy with what u got" people..) maybe change their POV at least a little bit.

I hope there is also a chance too for seeing SMAC: Alien Crossfire...

Indeed.

Assuming the information is accurate, I'd expect the games to be included. Mr. Gog does not sell expansions separate from games, so either they'll be included or they'll offer an upgrade. I suppose, they could make it a free upgrade for those that had already purchased, but I think it's much more likely that the games will be updated to include the expansion for free.

Fingers crossed.
Why do I have the feeling that this:

"Had a great chat with the GOG gods at PAX, we have a plan about the add ons for old origin games, hope it works out!"

...involved a shameful amount of liquor. Whenever I get drunk, I always talk like I have a plan for everything (Hey hey hey guys hey I have a plan... I'm going to the bathroom hehehehe)

I always found it quite odd that so many (apparently EA) games were missing expansion packs due to "licensing issues", as if the add-on packs were always published by some other company or something.

Then again, for something like Castles 1 (which lacks the Northern Campaign expansion), the reason probably is that they have licensed a re-package (Castles + Castles 2 combo) which never included the expansion for some reason.

If there's any truth to that EA story, then I'd guess the expansions would come here soon. :) If EA hesitates for some reason or asks lots of extra money, all GoG really needs to tell them is:

"You know, many GoG-users are not buying the games at the moment simply because of the lacking expansion packs. If you threw them in, you'd instantly see a surge in your EA GoG game sales."

You know, EA may be big and dumb, but they are not stupid! ...I hope...

I think it's unrealistic to expect GOG to tell us everything that is going on behind the scenes.

Honestly, they don't owe us that... not at all.

Likely what would happen is GOG would make a promise to the community, then some publisher would pull out of the tentative agreement or there would be some kind of unpredicted problem. Then what? There will be riots on the forums about GOG "lying", "not trying hard enough", etc.

Hell, there already ARE threads about GOG "not trying", so can you imagine how bad it would get around here?

I didn't request does GOG tells us everything... but at the moment it tells near nothing. And what they say is in the forum, where it just fades away after some hours because the thread sinks down.

But how about a real system to track the status of pending things.. a project/bug tracker as example.
Open issues of games.. a changelog about fixes.. when has the last time something changed on it.. is there even someone working on it or has it been put on hold because low priority..
The possibility to submit bugs.. critics.. wish for new features (for the Downloader, the page, the forum and other things with a voting function, so they can see what is how much requested.
All such things would be really nice.. and at this moment there is no real place and it happens in the forum where all things tend to fade away. So people spread what urges them the most and others get annoyed by this.

For me it is not about getting promises.. is is the lack of feedback and seeing progress.

That was always conjecture on our part, none of us really know what the issue is, but that's a common one, as is including materials that are licensed by somebody else.
I think it would be great news if this were true. But if there's really just a simple misunderstanding between EA and GOG, how does this square with GOG's claims that they've been working really hard to get the expansions? If the problem was that simple to solve, it would probably mean that GOG have not even talked to anyone in charge at EA.

The most likely explanation is probably the bureaucracy involved in a company the size of EA. It's not impossible the people GOG were talking to were telling them one thing but the people who make the actual decisions higher up expected something else. It's not impossible and it's likely PAX was a good time for some of the people from GOG to meet with the people at EA who can actually get shit done.

This isn't a major part of their business. Until a few months ago, it wasn't a part of their business at all.

The first rule of making business is: you don't talk about business until everything is done.

We're working on it was a direct quote of a forum posting here on GOG, so I think you're mixing up sides there :p

Pretty much 95% of today's gaming industry would disagree with you there, offering videos and demonstrations of technology and games far ahead of 'being done'. I've been happily reading up on Guild Wars 2 on various different sources for years now, just to mention a prominent example.

I doubt that's "talking business" however, more "gaining publicity while saying as little as possible about what goes on behind the scenes".
