I was inspired by the new games suck thread to make this thread. What are some games that don't have the problems listed in that thread?

In particular I am interested in any recommendations of games that:

1. Don't have draconian DRM. What I mean by that is any of the following A)Constant online DRM B)Hardware authentication/authentication and/or install limits C)GFWL D) EA's Origin E) Ubisoft's UPlay.F)Any DRM with questionable behavior, rootkits, spyware etc. I am a huge fan of Steamworks so long as it is not tied to any 3rd party DRM.
2. Games that are cross.platform, in particular games that have Linux versions.
3. Games that have mod tools and mod SDKs. In particular level editors, importers and exporters for 3D packages such as 3DS Max and Maya. I am thinking about like the modding SDK's that id Software used to release for their games(and is supposed to do with Rage as well).
4. Games that have extensive video options and customization abilities. Think id's consoles and the .ini files of some Unreal Engine games. But also just extensive options in the menus.
5. Games that have cutting edge graphics with the latest rendering algorithms
6. HUGE bonus if the games have had their source code released as FLOSS or were FLOSS from from the beginning. But this is not a requirement.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Yeah, skip requirement 5.
How about recommending some games? Requirements 1-4 are the most important but I am missing games that really push the envelope.
Well... Doom 3: BFG edition comes to mind. It's got latest rendering alhorithms, it's a shame it's using them so badly.

edit: Oh wait, that's Steamworks and Windows only, probably. Only Doom 3 was cross-platform. Nevermind then.

edit2: Uuu, The Witcher 2! It's for Mac and Windows, it's DRM-free, it's pretty and it's got modding tools. Doesn't have source code released, but hey, can't want everything.

Kristian: snip
Battle for Wesnoth is all those things except for 5. It's also freeware.

I was thinking the same thing, but it seems it will not get any (official) Linux port. Need to go back to original Doom 3...

edit - ha...ninjad by edit.

Thanks for the recommendation Licurg. I will check it out :)

Fenixp, thanks for the recommendation, but I already have it for both PC and PS3 :)
Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

The new Amnesia will have these attributes as well.

There's Minecraft, but it's platform-independency comes from Java. And I think it's got an activation check, not sure about that tho.

Other than that... Yeah. The bit that sucks is that most modern AAA titles are ports from Xbox 360, and Xbox 360, of course, is primarily using Microsoft technologies. As long as that applies, we won't see many AAA Linux ports.

And it's also a truly great strategy game. :)
Oh, right, Serious Sam 3. I'm not sure if you can get it DRM-free tho, I just know it'll be sold day 1 on Linux Steam.

It's also turn-based, relying on chance a bit too much to my liking. *shudders*

Well, there is a lot of "chance" involved in real warfare too, so why shouldn't there be any in games? :P

yes, you log into an account each time you start. You can play in offline mode in single player (but not in mulit, off course). You need to have activated your account at least once before you can play the game.
I already have Serious Sam 3 and The Witcher 2. Like I said I don't mind Steamworks. Doom 3 BFG Edition doesn't have Linux binaries but the source code is out so that may happen eventually. But you can't have everything like Fenixp said. But like I said I already have it. I am currently downloading Wesnoth. I think I may have Amnesia: The Dark Descent as part of a Humble Bundle or something.

Edit:

Maybe I should add that FPS is by far my favorite genre.

With Minecraft, this is a good thing actually and nothing new.
