misfire200: Secondly, the screenshots were ok, but you could tell it was far from perfect.
The screenshots looked fine to me. Graphics do not make a game. Gameplay does.
Yes, it should have been truly labeled early access.
I agree. I have purchased a few games that are early access or in alpha stage, to support developers making a game I would love to see come to life. If I was aware this was an alpha game, I would not have purchased it for $15.99.
Now, you also read about the issues beforehand so it was not like you could not be prepared...and to assume STEAM would not release this is just a bullshit excuse to try and say it was not your fault.
There is a major difference between a game that is released on disc compared to a digital download. The timeframe to get a game on disc published and released differs from a digital download. I didn't think that the digital release would be bug-free, I assumed that it would be playable.
It is not Steam's job to hold your hand. Nor is it there job to protect you from buying crappy games. If you would have went to a retail store, 99% likely you would not have gotten a refund either. You may....if you talk to them properly get store credit.
I'm not asking them to hold my hand, I am asking them to adhere to basic consumer protection laws and sell a working product. I am happy with store credit and that is what I have asked for.
This is what I wrote to Valve:
"I have never purchased a game that has been released in such an unplayable state. I was under the impression that I was purchasing a full and working game, not an alpha game.
Under Australian consumer law, the sale of this game has breached the law on multiple fronts. Steam's "we do not issue refunds counters the laws of the country I live in.
With that said, I do not wish a cash refund, I am after the US$15.99 I pre-ordered the game with via my Steam wallet refunded to me, as this game is not a working product and does not adhere to Australian consumer laws in relation to an agreeable trade.
Looking at my account, you can easily see that I am a valued Steam customer with close to 500 games, and I would appreciate if you would rectify this as soon as possible.
Please do not respond with a form letter reply of "we cannot help you with this". I would appreciate if a human being with a mind could simply rectify this matter so it is not taken further.
If it appears that I am hostile, it is due to my disbelief that others have requested a refund and it has not been given."
It could have been more pleasant but is civil enough to cover my request without resorting to the language I used venting in this thread.
Again, it is not about the money. I would be reacting the same way if it was a $1 or $100 game. I cannot understand how people can accept something in an unplayable state that was not advertised as an alpha or early access game. It is a simple matter of purchasing a good or service that is not what was advertised.
