I'm curious to know what any parents on this forum think of this situation. My sister in law and her husband came up for the fortnight just two days ago. So the wife thought it'd be good idea to take the kids to the zoo. So on the 2 hours down to glasgow my sister in law sat with her youngest sons fingers in her mouth, sucking on them just to keep him quiet.

Does this seem extremely weird and creepy to any else?! We're feeling a bit weirded out and curious to know if it's normal?! haha!

How old is her youngest son? If it's infant or young toddler, not too odd.

No, I'm not kidding. Very young children respond to a variety of sensory stimuli for soothing. It can be visual, audible, or apparently in this case, tactile. What do you find to be disgusting about it?

When my nephew gets out of hand I give him a plastic bag to play with. It's fun and it's educational: teaches him about the respiratory system.

Hmmm...I do not think I have heard anything like this before...not the parent sucking on the kids fingers. We do not even let our kids suck on their own fingers=) We do let them use a binky for the first year but that is it. Too me it seems wierd as how would one even start doing that as a way to calm one...

I have two kids 5 and 8... I have seen where their hands go. I don't even want to touch them at that point never mind put their fingers in my mouth. If the child needs to calm, you buy the little bugger a cuddly little teddy. You don't stick their poo, snot ridden fingers in your mouth!

yes I am the same. As soon as I saw my kids sucking their fingers they got disciplined.
