Draugkir: i ment indie companies.
looking to the polished state of the game is easy to understand they are not new to game development.
Indie companies need to be supported.
Not to sound argumentative (though I suspect that this will sound like that, I'm not actually strongly disagreeing with you), I think we need to focus on supporting "good" indie devs. The scene is getting horribly bloated, and while a lot of gems have been released (Trine, Aquaria, Eschalon, Frayed Knights, Blackwell, Jamestown and so on. I could list a lot more), there have been a lot of "me too!" games, games that brings nothing new or interesting, games that just feel derivative and inferior. Hopefully the indie scene will stabilize in a while, when people start to get a bit more selective in what they chose to support.
Now judging by how well received Grimrock has been, by how much the devs have listened to people, and by the subtle improvements to the formula that they have mentioned, I do think this sounds like one of the games that should be supported, and I don't feel bad about having pre-ordered the game.
And yes, Max Payne was great. Both 1 & 2 felt fresh, interesting and were a blast to play. I'm glad that those people are still around, creating games.
And anyone who enjoys slightly old-school CRPGs, that are not slaves to the old-school conventions (i.e. the ones that pick the good parts out of old-school and drops the bad ones) should check out Frayed Knights as well. It is a Wizardry-like game that I thought was great.
