I know it is sacrilegious to ask this... but why is Grimrock tilebased, other than reminding of Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder? (I may have asked this before but apparently I have forgotten the replies.)

Maybe I'm alone, but I was only happy when e.g. Ultima Underworld appeared in early 90s, moving from the overused, semi-realtime tilebased RPG format in the aforementioned games, as well as Lands of Lore 1, Stonekeep etc., to a more realistic, freeform movement.

I'm not saying Grimrock might not be a great CRPG, but in my mind it may be that despite being tilebased, not because of it. Or is there some reason why tilebased makes it better than if it was not?

I will most probably get it anyway, just had to ask this.

Grid-based is generally better for people who make maps (a single tile is a single block on a sheet of graph paper). Plus, old-school.
Pre-ordered. Thanks, GOG!

timppu: Snip
Blas...! Well, no. I think it is one of those technical limitation = genre definition. I don't mind it in this case but i have problem with nes-like jprgs. It is kinda sad.
Preordered from here AND from the devs. Just because I'm that crazy and want more games like this. Was expecting to shell out 20+ dollars for this sucker anyway so don;t mind paying twice.

I've been following this game for over half a year now with updates every week and I am SO excited to play it!

(Justice must be served--- :-P ;-) )

grviper: 46 reviews? Really? Morons...
I wrote elsewhere these should be deleted. I also think you shouldn't be able to review a GOG release unless you own that GOG release. It is most helpful to read reviews by people who actually own the game, as it is released here, running on current systems, etc., etc.

Reviews about what a grand experience it was 20 years ago from memory, on some console, etc., etc. are almost as useless as reviews by people who've never even played an unreleased game such as this one imo.

What's wrong with wanting to support indie devs that are producing games in a style that I want to see more of?

This.

By the way it's the first time that I get the pre-order bonuses before the game... thanks GOG !

Unexpected to wait 2 weeks for release while reading the ( beautiful ) game manual...
What bonus do I get by paying in preorder? Isn't it the same if I wait till release and pay then?

Preorder = $11.99
Release Date = $14.99

Anyone correct me if I am wrong.

Apart from the discount, the bonuses you get now will probably stay the same even after release

You save $3 by preordering.
My mistake :
"If you pre-order now you get 20% off the retail price and early access to [...] goodies:"

That's something i'm not used to. You know, "early access" :D
