The gaming community has been bitching about big publisher like Activision and EA destroying gaming. Now we have truly "we dream again" project coming. Of course I will support that Kickstarter. Only 60$ for now, but the 100$ look tempting.
If this project won't get made, I never want to hear bitching about the state of gaming again!

I read the kickstarter page, and it is quite hard to tell how it will be different from the original Portal, other than that it will have vastly superior visuals and audio of course.
I guess I'll play a demo and then make up my mind if I want to buy it. I think every Molyneux game was also supposed to change the world as we know it. Yeah he made some good games too, but...

Maybe it's just my german cheerfulness, but I have high hopes for the game (if it gets made).
But then, I rarely very strongly want a sequel or a remake for a great game, especially for ages old games. I feel each game is its own entity, and the sequels may just as well miss the mark completely what made the original so great. Hence, I rather wait for the game and then judge whether I'll possibly be interested in it, no matter if it is a (spiritual) successor to anything or not. The disappointment I had with e.g. Warcraft 3...
Portal1986 is especially problematic case because, frankly, the original wasn't really a game at all. A for an effort, anyway. I found it a very interesting and different experiment, but I'm not sure I really want more such games (but who knows, maybe the new Portal will be very great indeed). Maybe a similar case as with The Journey.
The Carmageddon kickstarter interests me a bit, but not enough to participate in it. Ie. if the game ever comes out, I'm sure to check it out, at least so that it isn't like Carmageddon 3: TDR2000 (or whatever it was called).

For me a Kickstarter is more than just a preorder. It is a way for me to actually help the game getting made. So far, I think, I've paid three time around 150$ because I really want to see those games made (well, the rewards weren't bad too ;-) ).
As you probably know by now, I don't really have a problem with piracy, I think end users should have free access to entertainment products and pay what they want. Therefore I'm paying more than I must (but not more than I want) so that the game will get made (and is then technically available for everyone).
It is also a leap of faith, of course, those games can be pretty shitty in the end. But I guess this is my way of gambling.
Probably hard to understand for many, but that's just how I'm trying to do my part.

I'm actually happy they cancelled the previous kickstarter and started a new one, not because of the previous goal being too high (I've no idea if it would prove to be), but because now I can save that money this month and wait to pledge until I get paid near the end of the month.

It's not about getting a game or goodies, it's about investing in a product you would like to see made. It's about taking the "money power" out of the hands of unimaginative publishers and putting in the hands of gamers and the devs they want to support. Think of it like investing in the stock market, except instead of getting a cut of the profits for your investment, you get a "cut" of the product itself.

Well, here's the new link: www.kickstarter.com/projects/subgames/rob-swigarts-portal-1986-reborn-v20
their new goal is $530,000. Still a bit high, but more realistic.

Looks like a very interesting project, although I never know nothing about the original game... until now. The goal looks quite bit high but I hope players around the world would put their two cents... the concept its so promising and so different to what we usually accustomed to see that I think deserve our attention.
