After the success of Tim Shaffer´s new campaign many new projects appeared, many of them deserve some interest, but probably one of the most ignored and also awesome in every detail related to it is Rob Swigart's Portal Reborn, a project based on an amazing and well sci fi game from 1986. I played the amiga version using winUAE (sorry I can´t write here links to illegal stuff) and I must say it got me thrilled. The story is great and you get easily into the trama. It´s really hard to see such good stories in actual games. The original game concept was very closed to a visual novel game concept. Anyway the videos they seem to be preparing modern 3d scenarios for the game, more related to the adventure concept and it the idea seems to be taken with seriousness (the original writer in involved in the game) and love.

This is a nice and fair review on the original game

Just remember some things about kickstarter (I won´t say crowdfounding as long as some of the webs don´t follow these rules)
1 They only charge your donation if the founding goal is achieved, so if it fails you don´t loose your money.
2 It´s the only way to make some projects which are not supported by some big studios
3 It stablish a fair and correct relationship between creators and public, not only in games, but also with the cultural industry in general.

Thanks for reading this :-)
It seems interesting but unless it really picks there's no way it'll make it's goal. Even 100k isn't looking good at this point. I'll keep it in mind but I'm not sure I'll be able to contribute,

Yes, true but I think it would be great to show interest for the project. Even if they fail if they see interest on it they may try other ways to do it.
Guys, please don't impersonate yourselves as fans when you're really the developer.
/trollface

Anyway I was on the fence regarding this, but it looks like they're not going to meet their goal, so I'll just back the $100 tier to help them gain some momentum.
From the latest update:
"Since launch of this campaign approximately two weeks ago, we've heard the concerns you and those watching on the sidelines of the internet have raised about us being able to reach our funding goal. We believe we now have a solution."

I stand by my opinion that they're either brilliant or delusional ;P. That's something worth supporting either way...

My money is firmly on delusional, but I'm very curious to see what their "solution" is.
MLM? ;D
$900K? Can't see this happening.
Has rob swigart done anything besides this interactive novel in 1986?
IMO if youre asking for somthing as high as 900k, you better be an extremely experienced game designer with a bunch of titles to your name.
And if he hasnt done anything else, it begs the question: Why not? And why 900k now for the first game hes worked on in over 25 years?

Is it just me, or has Kickstarter gone a bit crazy recently. It started out as a place for real projects, but now seems to be the stuff of pipe dreams.

No he doesn't, and I agree with the rest of your post. They don't exactly have an A-team of developers, which is why I was hesitant to back. I'm only confidently putting my money down for now because I know it's unlikely to hit that goal, but at least it'll motivate them.

Apparently you can play the original Portal from 1986 in your browser at virtualapple.org.

You need to install an Apple II emulator plugin, though. I haven't used it yet, so try at your own risk.

I'm really surprised that this hasn't picked up yet :( Who knows, maybe if I find a spare $875,000 just lying around, I'd give it to this project.
