Trilarion: I agree and I never did this. However with the ability to mark reviews as helpful you can kind of exlude them from the top ten review list.
avatar
Voight-Kampff: That's the even crazier thing: many People actually find these reviews HELPFUL!!
But yes, I'm trying to do my part. ;)
It's no longer about helpful review or not but more like people looking for reviews that agree with what they thinking.
Couldn't agree more with the OP but everyone is entitled to their opinions (unqualified or not). I'm not about to be the internet police.

Now if only we got an ignore function...

Voight-Kampff: Hello,

I wish People would not review a game that they haven't played. I feel like I'm reading reviews that begin With "I haven't played it, but... " al the time, and i find it really annoying!

Can't we all agree to keep Our unqualified opinions on the forums and let the game reviews be a Place for well thought out opinions based on experience With the game?
I agree with you completely but I also accept that the situation is hopeless and will not change.

It is good to vent sometimes though. It helps one to cope with the madness in this world.

+1 for you.

nijuu: Maybe they should add something compulsory at the end of every proposed review tagging it Played or not.
But how would you prevent them from lying about that?

I mean GOG has no way to prove, if someone has played a certain game or not - heck, even on Steam, where your playtime is recorded, you could easily fool the system.

Just start a game, then go walking the dog, see a movie at the cinema and have a nice dinner in your favorite restaurant - after that come home and write a review of the game, that you never actually played - no one could prove otherwise.

Can be proven by people who actually playing the game. They can always question things they said or downvote their reviews.

Reminds me when Fox News invite a psychiatric to talk about Mass Effect and how it's a "Sex simulator" and over exaggerate the sex scenes in the game. A lot of people immediately point out the discrepencies in those statements.

The fix is very simple.
Only those people who have game X on their shelf can write reviews about game X.

Of course, this doesn't guarantee that people actually play it, and also some people who don't personally own it, could have played someone else's copy of the game.

But still, that fix would take care of 90% of the "unwanted noise" in the comments. And get almost totally rid of the useless "I used to play this on my Amiga" commenting, which really give no information about the version being sold here.

"I just bought this game. I haven't played, or even downloaded, it yet, but I can tell it sucks!"

Well that simple fix would prevent previews from people that don't own that game (be it here on GOG.com, or at all), but -as you have recognized already- it wouldn't necessarily prevent people from posting "untrue" previews.

Not sure, if typo or not - but this sounds as if you also don't want people to comment on games, they don't own yet - which would be quite counterproductive, don't you think?

I mean, if I (you) don't own a game here, I (you) would not be able to ask anything about the game, to make a decision regarding a purchase or not.

Well, that is possible already.

Fox News? Aren't that those guys, that broadcastetd ARMA2 video-footage as evidence of warcrimes, or such?

I think, one shouldn't give a toss, what those guys say, really.

Edit: typo

Well we gamers can dismiss what Fox News said. But remember that uninformed non gamers will eat their news whole. I mean there's already an outcry to force the govt to do a research if violent and sexual video games affect people and Obama actually considering it.

Also it's ITV who actually broadcast the ARMA 2 footage thinking that they actual footage.

Ah, you are right...I didn't google it, just remembered some "three letter" - TV-Station.
I stand corrected.

How fucking old is that computer!? It looks like an Apple//e. :P
On a related note, what pisses me off: shitty news aggregator design that leads to mass downvoting of bad/sad news. As in, some idiot web designers name the buttons "like" and "dislike", and now people see "kid got brutally murdered, killer on the run" and press "dislike" because they don't like when kids are murdered.
