Whilst info about the next consoles will likely trickle out over the next year, and maybe at E3. MS and Sony cannot possibly release a console until 2013/14. The kinect and PS move are, for all intents and purposes, mid cycle refreshes that's as close to consoles launches. Ever since dev costs ballooned during this current gen, the two have sought ways to extend the lives of the 360 and PS3 beyond the traditional 5 year console release. They'll seek to further build and monetize the online portion of their business, since that's what making the bank.
I mean the hardware makers are happy, the devs are happy, the gamers are happy and last time I checked, the world is trying to recover from a recession. Never mind late this year, I reckon the general public won't have the money for a luxury purchase like a new console until mid 2012, and that's IF apple doesn't try to muscle into the games industry. The big three should be worried about apple, (and to a lesser extent Google), for Gaming marketshare rather then outrunning each other to expensive, new consoles no one is ready to plonk down much needed cash for. Yeah, it's ironic I mention money saving and apple in the same paragraph, but we all know how powerful apple's reality distortion field is, and no other company has it. Anyway I'm getting off topic.
You can expect good games, surprise annoncements, price cuts and a late 2012 WII 2 release date. Nintendo already did their big hardware release for this year.
Buy your PS3 in confidence, it has a ton of amazing exclusives for it.
