So here's the shtick, in a couple months E3 is going to happen and Nintendo will release information on there new console and Microsoft will release information on a possible console. Now I know Sony is currently having trouble with there network (obviously) but my question is, Should I Wait tell after E3 to buy a Playstation 3? or not? Obviously I don't want to spend 600+ bucks on a new console only to have 12 months from now the new incarnation out. What do you guys think?
Wait at least a few weeks... If you haven't heard, the PSN is down because of hackers and stuff.
I thought it had been announced somewhere Sony and Microsoft wouldn't have new consoles till 2015?

I've been reading reports from IGN/Gamesradar/Gamspot that Microsoft might (MIGHT) release some sort of information pertaining to a new console. As for Sony There hands are kinda tide up right now.

I remember reading this somewhere too. No idea how accurate it is though.

I actually think I saw a forum post about it here on GOG. But I found the news story on CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2011/TECH/gaming.gadgets/04/21/new.playstation.xbox/index.html?iref=NS1

I can honestly say I'd rather Microsoft and Sony NOT release a new console but at the moment with Nintendo gearing up for something new it might push them to release something even if its just a hint at what is to come. Like i said in the opening though I'd rather not spend 600 now just to find out 12 months down the road a new console is out from Microsoft.

I'm willing to bet that they're both working on the next gen consoles as we speak. But they're likely not to the point where they could consider announcing their plans.

wii2 expected 2012
xbox 3 expected 2013 (adverts for hardware specialist positions went out early last year takes about 3 years to source, design, test and release.)
PS4 expected 2014

As for buying a console this month? wait for the sales there is no point plunking down full price when there will probably be price cuts around e3

Alright Perfect thanks wodmarach, Yeah I was already planning on waiting tell E3 was over to get it but wanted to make sure I wasn't throwing down money only to turn around and find out the next gen is already here.
Easter did bring out some good bargains for a console purchase..

Prob best to wait till the kids are off school, there always seems to be a sale then.

Im looking to get another american xbox shipped over so am waiting till I can get one on the cheap
i actually have about a dozen or so games i bought in the last year, and do i not have a PS3 Yet, just buying when they are really cheap except for my god of war 3 special Edition

when i do eventually get one, possibly next year it will be my first proper use of PlayStation as i have only use the previous PlayStation's about a week all up for the both of them.

just like the only game i have played on an X-Box is the First Halo (i actually did not like it much), Some Golf Game and the original NFS Underground.

I was and Still am happy with my Nintendo Gamecube and Wii, the PS3 should definitely be a good purchase when i finish all the games i have for them

Whilst info about the next consoles will likely trickle out over the next year, and maybe at E3. MS and Sony cannot possibly release a console until 2013/14. The kinect and PS move are, for all intents and purposes, mid cycle refreshes that's as close to consoles launches. Ever since dev costs ballooned during this current gen, the two have sought ways to extend the lives of the 360 and PS3 beyond the traditional 5 year console release. They'll seek to further build and monetize the online portion of their business, since that's what making the bank.

I mean the hardware makers are happy, the devs are happy, the gamers are happy and last time I checked, the world is trying to recover from a recession. Never mind late this year, I reckon the general public won't have the money for a luxury purchase like a new console until mid 2012, and that's IF apple doesn't try to muscle into the games industry. The big three should be worried about apple, (and to a lesser extent Google), for Gaming marketshare rather then outrunning each other to expensive, new consoles no one is ready to plonk down much needed cash for. Yeah, it's ironic I mention money saving and apple in the same paragraph, but we all know how powerful apple's reality distortion field is, and no other company has it. Anyway I'm getting off topic.

You can expect good games, surprise annoncements, price cuts and a late 2012 WII 2 release date. Nintendo already did their big hardware release for this year.

Buy your PS3 in confidence, it has a ton of amazing exclusives for it.

Id go for the PS3 slimline or maybe a move bundle... if i had to pick i would STILL pick ps3... besides now there going to have the most secure network after all this!

Even now i would pick PS3 over Xbox, i cant see spending $30/mo for internet options and having the dated graphics it offers when i can play a games that looks stunningly beautiful still..

On a side note, Nintendo is dropping a new console mid the big boys... its going to be like a dreamcast, rather the DC dropped between generations and died... im really hoping to see something epic from Nintendo but Ive been quite disappointed as of late :(

As cool as the PS3 is, if I was buying a console purely for the gaming experience I'd go with a 360. But the PS3 has Blu-ray. But the 360 has the better online service (even if you do have to pay for it) and most third-party games run/look better on it.
