Bummer bro.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent had its moments, if you played it alone in a dark room with earphones. Havend had yet time to play the previous games from the same company, but ive already pocketed them from some sale.

Dead Space 1 was a bit scary in the beginning, but after the few first enemies and getting the gun, well shooting the necro's became a routine - but I liked the game non the less.

Metro 2033 and atleast the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R had some spooky moments, but they are also the kind of games where you have gun and know that you can gun down anything, so they are not really scary.

"Home" wasn't a scary game, but thinking about the plot can make you paranoid. I liked the idea alot.

Most scaring things in game scene have certainly been the price tags for the last few COD's - they are insane.
Have to second Amnesia and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Also Sanitarium, which definitely makes you paranoid about reality itself.
I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream. After I beat it I was left with an uneasy feeling, and the whole way through all I felt was a sense of dread. Great game.

Darkseed gave me similar feelings.

Ravenholm had me a little on edge when Half Life 2 was new.

The emptiness of the PSX King's Field games made me uneasy.
I wouldn't call it directly paranoia, but Powerslave (Exhumed) has an unnerving part including with bees or hornets. You constantly hear buzzing in the background, more quieter more noisier, knowing these beasts will attack you from behind anytime. After several attempts to finish that part/area I couldn't go on , because hearing that buzzing alone made me mad and nervous.

Potzato: I can't remember which Thief game it was ... but there is this level in an 'abandonned' asylum or orphanage .... I couldn't get through it for some reason. The atmosphere was way to heavy.

I read later that the level designer got some award for this job.

The most disturbing/ridiculous thing in this story, is that I beleive the level was people-empty, and I stopped playing it at this point. This game is my personnal top-mark for immersion and ... atmosphere.
That's the Cradle in Thief: Deadly Shadows. Great atmosphere. A comparable "spooky" level is the Ocean Hotel level in VtM:Bloodlines.

The multiplayer modes of Kane & Lynch: Dead Men and Dog Days. Period.
I remember when I bought the "The Thing" game. The shop attendant had played it and seemed entirely traumatised by this game. As a parting advice, he kept repeating with a trembling voice : "and remember.... don't trust ANYONE". He was a bit intense.

The game itself didn't hold my attention for very long (too much of a linear shooter, for a fan of the campbell story and its adaptations), but from what I gathered from the reviews, he might have been entirely shocked by he fact that your companions turning out as Things is entirely scripted, and not at all dependant on actual contacts with the creature, rendering the while in-game suspicion system a bit useless (apparently you can have a NPC pass a blood test succesfully, only to turn into a monster in the next scene because the script was planned so).

I was just thinking of that. Even though I've been there a lot it still gives me that feeling.
There was a demo I played when i was around 15 called Nosferatu. I played at noon and stil managed to make paranoid. I couldn't sleep that night. :D It was so much fun!

Daggerfall also did this. I kept multiple backups of my savegames when playing that game.
