Elenarie: They ask only for one key, not all of them. Same thing as Battle.net (probably), Blizzard also do this sometimes and they only ask for a single key.

Do you have any retail box around that you've activated on Steam?
You sure they only want one key? Yeah I can easily get them one key but I shouldn't have to...that is what I'm saying. In my opinion, this is worse than having to be connected to Blizzard, when I'm playing Diablo 3. They have gone too far, with me. There is nothing I can do but do what they say in order to get my email changed and I wont. Why? Because its not worth my time to do all that stuff just to change the email and it is against my beliefs. So email stays the same, and I'm done with Steam. If it didn't break the agreement I have with Valve, I'd sell my account right now for a sandwich or give it away if nobody has a sandwich to offer me.

Yep one key will do the trick :) Try to get at least 2 wursts and 2 beers for it ;)
I could change my email address 10000000 times with GOG without having to prove my ownership of the account...

I can't get 2 wursts and 2 beers for it. That goes against the agreement I have with Steam. They will disable the account, and then the person who gave me 2 wursts and 2 beers for it, gets ripped off.

macuahuitlgog: Well I'll give them my credit card info but I refuse to dig through all my shit for CD keys and take pictures of them etc. I think I accidentally threw out one CD key too so...yeah.
If all the games are tied to ONE account and you gave them the CC info tied with the account then they should automatically KNOW the rest of the stuff on that account is yours as well.(It's not like someone else would randomly post retail/etc games to someone else's account for free....or are they too stupid to believe this might happen?)

I agree that the CC info should be enough. Just in case, people didn't read all previous posts. Did anyone here have similar experiences with Origin, because looking for something to replace Steam?

I'm willing to bet that it will be enough. The part about CD keys has been in my experience only an automated message.
Ok, if what they are saying is just automated crap then I'll give them the credit card info but nothing else and see what happens. If they change the email address after that, I will continue using Steam and buying games from them. If not, then bye bye Steam forever.
Wait, do you have Steam Guard enabled while trying to change the email address via the client?

Yes.

Oh, then there goes my theory. Was going to suggest that you enable it if you had it disabled.

I think that might end up being the source of the headaches, they might be worried it's someone changing the email because they can't get past the Guard.

Well I shouldn't be punished just because we live in a world full of such people who hack into people's accounts. They should only expect me to prove the ownership of every game on the account if someone already stole my account, and I tell Steam, someone did such a thing, and I want my account back. And maybe they really just want my CC info and I'm not being treated like a criminal by Steam, just by their automated message, time will tell.
Thank you all for the quick responses.

cogadh: What!? That is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. Are you sure you were actually e-mailing Steam tech support and not somebody scamming a Steam-like e-mail address?
Valve have had that requirement for years. It's their standard procedure for verifying ownership of retail copies. Also note that if you throw your CD key out, or in the case of Portal 2 on PS3 trade that game away, whoever gets the CD key can get the related games removed from your account and added to their own.

There was a topic hidden on the Help and Tips forum in which someone stated they threw their Portal 2 CD key away and someone else found it, resulting in them have Portal 2 removed from their Steam account. Naturally, as they no longer have the CD key, they cannot prove to Steam support that they purchased it.

So, never throw your Steamworks CD keys away.

Tell me about it, I've been fighting with PayPal for the last month because they seem to think that I shouldn't be buying anything while using an IP from outside of the US. I'm fine with them requiring verification, but there is no way of confirming via the website that the transaction was authorized and they reversed a couple of transactions without consulting me.

Very inconvenient. Ultimately, I purchased via a US IP via VPN and paid the money, but it's disgusting how PayPal treats vendors. And I wasn't even trying to scam the vendor, I really want to pay for what I bought.

Steam, I mostly have trouble with being offline unexpectedly at random times, most of the horror stories I read about don't apply to me. But, I don't buy games from them any more and apparently they no longer take back games that were legitimately purchased.
